The modem drivers I have don't install. The used to work fine. Also windows task manager is rumoured to be complete rubbish. Because It is. The process manager is running a background task with 99% CPu usage. And it won't allow me to close it. Are these connected with the modem driver problem?

Do you mean System Idle Processes?

Take a screen shot

I use task manager every day of my life on dozens of servers that each cost more than your whole house, just learn how to use it.

As for updating drivers, are you using Device Manager, and Right clicking on Update Driver > then "no not this time" and "From s specific location" ?

What is the modem type? If youre not 100% positive, use Aida32 to determine.

How do you take a screenshot? I used to have a program for this, when I programmed.

(I;m just wiating for hyperonics hypersnap to download)

The process is System Idle Processes, yes.

The modem type is "adsl modem" (For faster downloads (!) Called Pulsar Adsl PCI modem.

To update the drivers I used a download site provided by Traverse and double clicked them. (Which Google.co.uk wouldn't show)

The system idle process tells you how much CPU is not in use for you have 99% free.

And they are in no way connected to your modem driver problems.

What's you modem name? (exact make and model)

That's a pretty normal download speed for a dial-up. Your MAX will only be about 5Kbps.

Anyway, a program called Driverguide will search your computer for all hardware and get the needed drivers for it.

I highly doubt it, the drivers are probably just not the latest version. What's the message when you look at the properties of your modem?

Does it say "Not working properly" "Missing files" "Cannot start"?

Network Adapter WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface is from the summary of AIDA32.

Instead of watching executions we are usually studying language usage and working to improve our spelling skills in order to advance ourselves to your level.

Use Driverguide, it will search and find your hardware and TELL YOU the name of the modem.

Then just search Google "drivers + name + xp"

What program will get the latest drivers? Reinstall what? The drivers are on my HD. The wizard won't work. I told it the path and it didn't work.

They are obviously not the correct drivers so use the progrm I already suggested, DriverGuide. It will get the drivers for you and install them.

Your error message said this...

This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

Have you tried reinstall? Does it say there are things conflicting in the properties (Right click > properties > resources)

Download the drivers

Put them in a folder called "modem"

Update the modem drivers via the "wizard"

Set it to search the folder called "modem"
