I have heard alot of good things about the Onion Ring system, and I'm sure you all have too.
But I'll get down to the point. It anonmizes port 9050 using SOCKS. I pointed emule's client ports to 9050 but something seems to be going wrong. Can someone point me to a user friendly guide on using Emule with TOR or just give me some advice? Thanks.

If you cannot do TOR through emule is there another way to make you connect via other computers (leving your IP safe) like using a proxy?

DO NOT USE TOR FOR P2P!!!!!!,
Tor is designed for anonymous browsing. Its all these asshats trying to use it for p2p that has crippled the network into an almost unusable state. It is not fast enough for p2p period, heck its not even fast enough for surfing these days cos of people like you.

No it does not.

What do you think the proxy setting in emule is for?

People are going to use it for p2p. Telling them not to is not going to have a usefull effect. If the operators of TOR servers dons't want to carry p2p traffic they had better get busy writing some advanced traffic analysis software to block the comon p2p protocols.

I didnt mean for you guys to soil yourselfs.
First of all.. I was asking for help. Not an assualt.
Secondly I haven't even used it for emule yet because I was having a problem. I dont mind having downloads at 4kbs..
It just seemed like the safest thing to do.
Sorry. Ill look elsewhere.

Stop flaming people hes just asking for help. Anyways as zarquon already said you should not use TOR for filesharing. Im not a big fan of the ed2k network so heres my suggestion: If you think youre not safe downloading in the public, try getting yourself onto a private torrent site such as pisexy, torrentbytes, oink, demenoid, etc. Then download using a bittorrent client such as uTorrent.

Torrents eh?
How is that any safer then public? Either way it's all getting sent from one site to your pc, their is no middle man.. With the middle man.. It would look more safe to your IP, and if you somehow get in trouble with the law, you can say " I was just connnecting through a middle man" .. I dont even think they can trace it back to you when you do something like that, because the proxy or whatever is a dead end.
I'm mostly a music person, so I know ED2k is the best for me, but I'd be willing to check out private torrent sites if they keep me out of harms way.. I just want to be as safe as possible ( I know that Im never truely safe, Ive heard that speech)

No way, bittorrent is the best for music, start of with somewhere like torrentspy, but if you can land an invite to oink, you've hit the jackpot music wise.

Well Alright thanks, but it still is unsafe as everything else.

Well Alright thanks, but it still is unsafe as everything else.
Private trackers are far safer than public ones as the only people that can see your ip are fellow enforced seeders and it is highly unlikely that the riaa are big seeders on oink.

Second what zarquon said. If you somehow manage to get an oink invite (theyre hard but not impossible to get) then youll see how much better BT is for music than ed2k. If you dont want to use bittorrent for your music I would still not use ed2k but use Shareaza (Gnutella, Gnutella2, ed2k)
About the safety, I dont really think you need to worry about that. The possibility that youll get caught while using BT is very slim.

Where would I start then for getting an invite? This sounds alot safer then Ed2k, and I have ALOT to give to this kind of community.
I would never use the shareaza or gnutella network. I go for full albums, and the genre I listen to is rare as all hell to find, Ive had the best with ED2k.
Thanks for all of your help guys I appreciate it.

If you go for full albums Bittorrent is the thing for you. To get an invite you can ask people- like me. Sadly I dont have any spare Oink invites and its also forbidden here to ask for BT invites. OInk has an irc channel where you can ask for an invite. You could also first try other private trackers which are easier to get into than the all-mighty oink such as filemp3.org. filemp3 currently has open signups so you dont need to get an invite. Also if you dont know how to use BT I suggest you read some guides first. And when choosing a BT client I suggest you use uTorrent.
Also although I'm not sure how safe this is- you could try finding some sites where you can download music from. But Im really not sure how safe this will be even with a proxy generator. Sites also ussually have less content which is their main problem.

I thank you for all your help but these private communities dont have any of the rare music .. Ill check out ionk though.
Can you use any proxy IP through emule?

Your best bet for an Oink invite is to go begging over at the IRC...
http://oink.me.uk/chat.php
Now remember, you must be patient and really nice to get one. It seems you have to offer something to get one.
But if you don't get in, you needn't worry because Torrent Spy and uTorrent work just as well.

If you need rare music I would also suggest you try soulseek, if BT just isnt the thing for you. What genre of music are you mostly looking for?
NekstBestThing
February 11th, 2006, 11:16 AM
Is soul seek a whole other network? i.e it isnt fast track right? I'm looking for post-hardcore and indie music.. Alot of the stuff I look for are bands that a no longer together and only had a minor record deals. Im a huge music person 30GB+ at least of rarities of my preferred genres. That's why I said I have alot to offer.

Soulseek is a whole different network with different chat rooms where users share their files. If youre looking for rare music soulseek is the thing for you.

With a smaller user base, I think there would be less likely for rare music.

All the same, soulseek has less popular music than most networks but more rare music. Just try it out, cant hurt. ; )

Of course it couldn't hurt. Ill check it out.
You did get me into bittorrent though, while I didnt find any of the music I needed (music that I can find on emule but only like 1 guy who is on every other month has) I did find seasons of anime that I couldnt find on other networks. Unfortantly you cant do utorrent through a proxy.

soulseek has rare music not found on any other network even though it has a smaller userbase.
If you cant find it on soulseek i recomend you try soulseek test which uses a different server but has better search results.

No, it's a test server.
By the way, does anyone know how to torify Soulseek on Windows XP? I read about how to do it using Linux and socat but unfortunately I don't have Linux.. I am sure there must be some way to do it.
Thanks in advance.

I could be wrong, but i thought begging for oink invites at the oink chat was forbidden. I could be wrong. Better advice would be to stick around here for a while and get your posts up to show you are really wanting to be part of the file sharing scene. On a side note, i have 8 oink invites but don't ask unless you have proof that you are a very good seeder at another large site.
