OK this router really pisses me off ALOT
linksys turely has problems with getting firmware right well ok here is the issue.

The router does not update the local IP of the DSL modem and the DHCP allways messes up and the UPnP does not work right.

However if i upgrade to the new firmware all those problems are fixed but now I get NEW ONES!
So if i upgrade the firmware i CAN'T play HL1 or CS online, and i have read that only a certain firmware works.
But if i downgrade i can play but i get the problems listed above.
This drives me NUTS, does anyone know of a third party firmware that is GOOD!?
I've googled without luck.

I thought you got banned twise from here for been a racist homophobic moron..?

Im already sick of hearing you use the word gay in a derogatory way e.g "OMGZ MY ROUTER IZ S0 GAY!!"

Its like been in a room with a bunch of 10 year old boys.

I have the same router and don't believe there is any third party firmware for it. The third party firmware for Linksys routers is for their wireless versions. I'd suggest upgrade to the latest firmware and figure out how to use it with HL1 or CS. Maybe you have to port forward with a static IP on that machine, or maybe you have to use port triggering. Explanations of both can be found online.

I was of the oppinion he got banned too but apparently it is lifted. I'm not sure what it is you are doing wrong I have never had any problems with it in any shape or form I set a static IP and port forwarding works like a charm.

Might just be me but I dont like my netgear for the sole reason that I cant use the built in firewall on my ethernet card while using my netgear router. Which really pisses me off because I can block access from applications very easilly with my built in firewall. When I contacted nethear they simply told me I didnt need a firewall with my router because it was one built in. So in my opinion avoid netgear.

I'd go with a Linksys wirless router. WRT54G, definately.

Get a WRT54G starting with serial: CDF5, CDF7, CDF8, CDF9, or CDFA
Any WRT54GS is okay but stay away from serial: CGN7.

I have a V3, i also used to have a V1 that worked flawlessly after i updatd the firmware (was a security update some 'tard at linksys thought embedding the correct password into the HTML and javascript delivered when you attempt to log in would be a good idea.

WRT54G i have one of those and it works great (the one for speed booster) we use it as a switch but the BEFSR41 is the one whitch gives out the DHCP IP's. However, the damn BEFSR41 has this problem with Half Life (as seen here http://www.svencoop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24390&highlight=BEFSR41) when i upgrad the firmware but when I change to the version which WORKS with HL i get hangups and DHCP issues.

So which router does anyone recommend?
