I'm trying to put some movies onto DVD. They are currently AVI files. Whenever I try to put them onto DVD, my computer freezes about 20 minutes into Nero's encoding process. I've run checks for spyware, and I really don't want to format the computer until I can get this stuff on disc. It's Nero Premium 7.0. Any ideas?

get nero 6.6.0.13 and get rid of 7. At the moment, it sucks.

I would suggest Winavi (get the 6.x version not the newer 7)or Main Concept's MPEG encoder for converting avis to dvds. Both of these are much faster than dvd santa.

I got my hands on a copy of Winavi and it seems able to do what I want it to do. Is there a way to make menus and chapters or a way to combine multiple avi files into one? If, for example, I have a movie that's split into two avi files and I want to join them together for one streaming DVD output file, is Winavi capable of doing that? Maybe I'm retarded, but I didn't see that function anywhere.

You are far from the first person to have problems with Nero 7. Nero 6 works great, never had a problem.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Personally, I like TMPGEnc Xpress for converting AVIs to MPEG video & DVD Author now Tsunami MPEG DVD Author Pro! Simple menus, nothing fancy just the way I like it!

I know with the 6.x version you needed NeroVision Express to convert the AVI to DVD because Nero itself didn't allow anything but VOB files for DVD even though you could slap a AVI in Nero to make VCD or SVCD.

I don't use Nero 7 often, but I just use it for their tools & burnning blank CDs & DVDs tasks. For converting video files to other formats & creating DVDs. I, like the above two programs I mentioned!

This works out great on my computer, otherwise no matter what version of Nero you use. It hooks in so deep in your system that causes more problems. But, It is still a very good overall program! They tried to do so much, don't expect it to be problems free!

Your post is meaningless, you could be using BT at the same time or masturbating furiously, and if youre doing anything to interfere with the process, blame yourself.

What do you have to work with? What else was running? When did you install Nero 7?

Have you ever defragged, EVER?

Dont make "Nero Sucks" posts unless you can justify them

What Krell says is true. Almost any program will freeze up if you have a huge amount of processes /other programs running. Defragementation, paging file size and RAM also has to do with this. Try running Nero alone and see if it works. Also configure your startup processes and remove what you dont need by going to start/run and typing services.msc It will give you a list of everything you have enabled at startup. Delete everything you dont need. Another suggestion: scan your system for viruses and other pests. I would reccomend using NOD32, ad-aware and a -squared.
