Since when did I become the angry old man shaking his cane at the youth of today?
It seems like the older I get the less I know and the more I thought I knew the less I find that I really know.
I need some help. I've recently managed to network a windows xp professional pc with a win98 one.
The winxp one doesn't connect to the internet as I chose for it not to when setting up the lan even though it does have its own dialup modem installed.
The win98 box does connect to the internet and has full access to the winxp machine including root drives.
I have one software firewall, Atguard 3.22 (similiar to norton's firewall) and have configured the rules to only allow access via netbios to specifically the win98 machine by host name and the windows pro machine by host name.
Is there anything else I can do to prevent someone from connecting to my pc via port 80 and browsing all my files?
Is that even how its done?
What about the possibility of getting a dialup router or a router for a dialup connection? Sensible or senseless?
Only other thing I can think of doing would be implemented passwords on the shares but if I cache my password on either machine specifically the 98 one for the shares on xp machine won't someone who gains access to the 98 machine (most insecure one) be able to browse my files on the xp machine with interent connection sharing firewall turned off?
