I know I value a few keyboard shortcuts. Some of which I wish I knew of far before I found them.

The three I constantly use:
Ctrl + C = Copy

Ctrl + V = Paste

F2 = Rename File

Once I started building up my .mp3 collection, I found that filenames lacked structure because they were coming from so many different sources (literally the thousands that shared). For a long time did I think I had to
right click > rename file . Until I stumbled upon F2. THANK GOD!

So, I figured it wouldn't hurt to have a thread that shares everyone's keyboard shortcuts.

Maybe one'll be found that you've never used before, and are grateful for, such as I was for finding F2.

Share away.

Windows key and 'E' pressed together to bring up Windows explorer.

Thats probably the most useful shortcut I know of.

Sparky9 likes to use em all....

Guess what I just did with that site?

I copied the shortcuts, pasted them into a word doc, and saved them to my desktop. At which time I realized I forgot to label it, so I then found the file and hit F2 to rename it!!! no lie!

Thanks for the resource.

SHIFT+DELETE (Delete the selected item permanently without placing the item in the Recycle Bin)
Awesome shortcut, never knew that one.

Windows + L locks an XP computer. Quicker than the Ctrl-Alt-Delete combo and then clicking on Lock Computer.

Oh, yeah and I like that Window + E. I make my friends use it when I'm helping them.

Not really a windows shortcut as such, but if you click a link with the middle mouse wheel in firefox it opens it in a new tab. V-e-r-y handy.

I learned these in elementary school:

Open up a text editor with some text in it.

Shift+L/R Arrow keys: select/unselect single characters.
Shift+U/D Arrow keys: select/unselect neighboring lines.
Ctrl+Shift L/R Arrow keys: select/unselect words.
Ctrl+Home: go to beginning of document.
Ctrl+End: go to end of document.
Home: beginning of line.
End: end of line.
Ctrl+Arrows: skip around words/lines without selecting.
Shift+Home: select all text from beginning of the line to your cursor.
Shift+End: select all text from your cursor to the end of the line.
Ctrl+Shift+Home: select all text from the beginning to the document up to your cursor.
Ctrl+Shift+End: select all text from your cursor to the end of the document.

Most of the other ones I use are documented in Sparky9's link (hmm, including these...they didn't used to be listed).

This would be a good idea for a wallpaper if you could somehow manage to fit it all on the page in a readable format.

Maybe... stick 'em all in a spreadsheet, alphabetize it and use that as a wallpaper?

WinKey + D ....show desktop

WinKey + M is also similar, minimizes all your windows in a jiffy

WinKey + L logs out of the current account (fast user switch)

and there's a bunch of others that you can try from a -z....

WIN+L has always been known to me as the "lock workstation" shortcut.

The ones I use most are:

Ctrl + A = Select all (text or files in current window)

Ctrl + C = Copy selected to clip board

Ctrl + V = Paste selected

I use those every day, and learned it when using WebTV, which doesn't use a mouse

Shift + right click>Delete to trash files, and bypass the recycle bin

F11 for full screen browsing

Print Screen for screen captures
_
Not a key shortcut: I haven't used F2, to rename I left click twice slowly on the name of the file. I find that faster because the mouse pointer is right where I need it, to paste, or start typing the new name. I have to do it over and over, for all of those files with no artist, like: 1. - Badname.mp3

Most disliked keys: Caps Lock and Insert. I never use them, and they cause more trouble from being pressed by mistake.

When I was on my stupid keyboard rampage I noticed that more and more keyboards don't even have the Insert key anymore.

I didn't notice that some keyboards don't have Insert. I might not notice, since I ignore that key anyway.

When I was learning Windows, they said that there are three ways to do most functions. I always remembered that, and it's good, because you can mix and match, and do whatever is most comfortable.

Some of the computer teachers who have been around, they go to the File menu, Exit to close the window, instead of clicking the X, because they learned in DOS or early Windows, which did it that way.

And Alt+Shift+Tab to go backwards.

Alt+Space to bring up the menu which has a name I do not remember.

Alt+ - (dash) to bring up the same menu on an MDI child window.

Alt+Tab is one I use a lot too.

Another one I remembered. If your registering for something or filling out your personal information, and using tab to go to every line (like your name, address, etc..) and you get to a part where there are two options (ie male and female) and it looks like you have to CLICK the option... click no more, use tab to highlight the option and press SPACEBAR and it'll put the checkmark in there or fill in the dot.

If you get to a dropdown box, use Alt+Down Arrow to drop it down. Then use the arrow keys to select an option, and hit enter to close it.

I don't recall ever seeing this before, so what's everyone's favorite keyboard shortcut? Mine happen to be Alt+F4 and Ctrl+T in Firefox.

I posted a list of KB shortcuts once, but never polled people for their favorite.

I use Alt+Tab and shift delete a lot

Wish I had an Alt+FU key for ZP a lot of the time.

The one I use the most is for this little app I have called clipomatic which allows you to copy multiple items, and view them all in one list. It's ctrl+alt+v to view, so I use that all the time.

Ctrl+Alt+Del, luckily I don't need it much on my computer, but when ever I work on someone elses it seems to be the only thing that works, at all...

I swear I just learned this last month ctrl+f text searches the page your on.I'd been looking for a simple app to do that and the whole time it was just a properly firing synapse away.To bad it doesn't happen more often.

Edit---- shift+f3 does the same thing. This is crazy.I was reading the other thread that is linked to in this one.Silent scream mentioned that shift+f3 does something cool in MS Word but he didn't say what.So I hit f3 even though I'm not using word( I have no earthly idea why I did it) and it does the exact same thing I had just posted about.Weird.
