Forget LAN or Bluetooth here's a way to turn yourself into a walking talking file transfer machine. Japanese company Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) has developed technology that uses the human body as a high-speed network. What's more, it also forms a communications link between people and electronic devices.

This is the first viable Human Area Network (HAN) device, enabling fast data transfer between devices using the human body as a conduit.

The transceivers - called RedTacton - uses the surface of the human body as a safe, high speed network transmission path.

Lets get back to business as usual shall we? Science and technology... yes indeed!

Forget LAN or Bluetooth here’s a way to turn yourself into a walking talking file transfer machine. Japanese company Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) has developed technology that uses the human body as a high-speed network. What’s more, it also forms a communications link between people and electronic devices.

This is the first viable Human Area Network (HAN) device, enabling fast data transfer between devices using the human body as a conduit.

The transceivers - called RedTacton - uses the surface of the human body as a safe, high speed network transmission path.

A transmission path is formed at the moment a part of the human body comes in contact with a RedTacton transceiver.

The company says that this latest development can transmit data over the surface of the skin at up to 2Mbps. RedTacton-enabled device does not have to be in direct contact with the skin - only within about 20cm.

Here’s the logic: Instead of relying on electromagnetic waves or light waves to carry data, RedTacton uses weak electric fields on the surface of the body as a transmission medium.

http://www.lostcoders.net/download/image/redtaction2.jpeg

A RedTacton transmitter couples with extremely weak electric fields on the surface of the body. The weak electric fields pass through the body to a RedTacton receiver, where the weak electric fields affects the optical properties of an electro-optic crystal.

The extent to which the optical properties are changed is detected by laser light which is then converted to an electrical signal by a detector circuit.

The HAN or Human Area Networks is scheduled to go on sale next year.

NTT says that the technology can be developed as an alternative to Bluetooth or WLAN technologies for very short range, high-speed communications.

The transceivers use an optical sensor to interpret fluctuations in the electric field of the human body through the use of a miniature laser and a crystal mounted in the transceivers.

The weak electric fields that exist around many kinds of objects - including metals, many plastics, glass, ceramics and liquids - make communication between transceivers possible, NTT said. The system is able to work through socks, shoes and gloves, and on both dry and oily skin.

A person equipped with a sensor can exchange data with another person carrying a sensor by shaking hands, and between a person and a device by touching it, walking on it, or by sitting on it, the company said.

The transceivers, which require a PCMCIA card to connect with an electronic device, use several hundred milliwatts of power and are insulated to avoid electric shocks.

My question is... if your holding both of these recievers to create the network, how do you start the connection? :icon_pira Very interesting product I think.

Turns out this may be a big thing in the near future. I can guarantee the lazy people will buy it.

Well I was here when she got herself banned and it was pretty ugly. She started like 10 threads with most of them saying either "fuck jorge in the ass" or "Fuck Soul XTC and cum hard" or something like that. I wish she would not have done that but CJ will be CJ.

I have no idea but she has been banned several times already. I don't know if there is a three strike rule around here.

You can disagree all you want but she was making a hundred different f*** you threads under a hundred different users.

at least she didn't shut down the forums this time. :) jorge musta fixed that exploit after that happened a couple of three years back.

and she has been banned more than 3 times, there is no hard and fast "3 strikes" rule. In fact, banning is basically entirely at the moderators discretion, for better or worse, as seen here in the last few days.

For gods sake, somebody got temped banned for one day and because he's been here a while, it turns into a mass mutiny. It's over with, let it go.

And CJ has been banned more that 3 times yes with good reason, and yesterday she got banned because (let me count) she made 20+ different users and about 50 f*** you threads.

Now c'mon, if you don't think that calls for a ban, then I don't either.

The mods do not have an easy job. I would not want to do it myself. It's pretty much a thankless job for the most part.

I like cj, she adds some personality to the place, as do some other long time savoury members. For anyone that's doubts she's a female, take a long hard look at her heavy hormonal thread starting rampage...now, would a guy PMS post like that? NOT!

Anyways, I hope the ban isn't permanent.

At least somebody gets it, thanks you RnR.

No the ban is permanent, the shit she went through messing up the forums (I was on the ball so I got all the threads before many could see them) and making all those other users. She thinks she owns the place and it's not gonna fly.

when I disagree with ANYONE about ANYTHING I tend to be pretty vocal about it... I didn't disagree with anyone in this thread, spamming is spamming.

As for notbob's temp ban: It is not the punishment itself I have a problem with. Its the spotty implementation and the unclear rules. I mean, come on auggie, notbob had that tag line up for months (if not over a year now) and was banned suddenly, at the moderators discretion, for not changing it. No matter how you cut it, thats crap. When was it decided that cursing in tags was bad? The day notbob was banned? The day before? when were the members informed of this spottily enforced rule against cursing in tags?

It seems obvious to me that the rules need to be made abundantly clear to members LONG before they are punished for not adhering. I am sure you all have had your discussions in the mod crib, and a very... enlightening... read I am sure they would be, but how do you think members are to take it when it appears that another member is banned for, from all appearances, personal reasons? Once again, come on, we all curse here but all of a sudden notbob's tag isn't family friendly enough?

Whether the moderators in question believe their actions truly justified or not, to many of the rest of us, their decision seems based in retribution and the reasons for banning manufactured as a rationale.

I wasn't going to write all this, or even respond on the subject again, but since you replied I wanted to make my thoughts on the issue clear.

what this forum doesn't need is a silver-tongued sephiroth. I'm afraid that, in time, we all will see thats what we got.

I understand you completely on the notbob front Gorp, we were unclear and that's why Hunters formal apology thread was made. I believe it the reaction was exaggerated a bit but I wasn't acutally here for a good portion of it (I have a life J/K) As respond to this post and all the other posts, formal action should be taking so I'm going to put it to the crew about a re-write of the rules in a more clean and obvious form. Also Krell's idea on the Ticker Tape should be introduced with the rules and such, just to refresh peoples minds.

Its been said a few times that he was asked in a PM, saw a copy in some thread, and either did not respond or rejected the request. It seems Notbob has no idea about any PM. Also it was said to have been talked about by the mods before hand.

I do not know what was right or wrong here as I only know the spotty info I'm getting through the forums. So I dunno what to think

i just wonder if using the human body as a conductor is a good idea over the long term (she types as she basks in the warm glow from her computer)
