Well it depends on what you mean by avi. .avi just means it's a video file. .avi can be raw, DIVX, XVID, and a variety of other formats.

Here is where you go:

TMPG DVD Author

+

Nero

Perfect encodes everytime.

Do yourself a favor and use DVD SANTA. It can parse any AVI thrown at it, has decent menu options, and cruises through files that chokke NERO VISION and TMPGENC AUTHOR.

I used to use TMPGENC exclusively, but when it hiccupped on some files from those crazy Brits, DVD SANTA handled it no prob.

Do it now and thank me later......

Testing a bunch of video apps can be maddening. I do remember, however, being impressed with the speed of WinAVI converters.

Still, I'm with Shawners on NeroVision Express. The only thing I don't like is that you can't change the framerate output. That's rarely a problem though.

I would suggest trying DIKO to make a KDVD. Perfect quality from avi/xvid and you can fit a good 8 hours on a regular dvd
Only downside is the overnight conversion time required.

you can change the framerate to PAL or NTSC. Add menu, add chapters, customize the size as well.. ANd byte rate.

I am using Sothink Movie DVD Maker (http://www.softdownload22.com/pagina_produs.php?variabila1=3518) and works ok and dosn't take much time to convert the file and is free.
