MTV Networks and Microsoft will join forces to design and develop a new digital music service, the companies said Tuesday.

The service, to be called Urge, is due to launch in 2006 and will be integrated into a new version of Microsoft's Windows Media Player.

Plans call for the service to offer more than 2 million songs for download from major labels and independent ones, as well as original content and MTV Networks programs. MTV Networks is owned by Viacom.

wait a minute... you mean mtv still plays music? i remember when music channels actually did that instead of programs about has-been celebrities and how britney spends her bucks. if this service is anything like that, i'll pass.

Ill resist the urge to try it. Theres just so much crap there trying to capitalize on .. Do we really need another music download service or a video on demand service? I get board watching a video more then once or any movie for that matter.. and the drm and expiration dates they put on it is lame. My friend at work bought a ringone for 2.99.. It expires in 90 days.
