Does anyone know of a virus that would make your printer stop printing in color? Mine just stopped, yet is it has plenty. I've run virus checks etc. Any suggestions???? Thanks.

I find it highly unlikely that a virus or spyware may have caused this. Unlike when a virus attacks IE for instance, printers are many with different software.
Check the cartridge for possible damage and run a test print.
Check all your printer settings and restore your default settings.

I don't think there is any virus that do that, check your ink cartridges & calibration!

Your cartrige head could be damaged or plugged like others have mentioned or your printer just went on the fritz.
Just a stupid question, I hate to ask this but its a big mistake to over look the simple possibilities. Did you check the settings to make sure it set to color

I did check and recheck the settings and run a test page (came out black and white) and re-downloaded the drivers even....a friend's recently did the same thing (also an Epson) which was making me wonder if it could be a virus we somehow shared. Maybe Epson is just known for this??

Are you sure the settings are set to print colour?
What exactly are you trying to print?
Have you tried printing a different project via different software?
Are you sure it's not a / an empty / faulty / damaged cartridge in anyway? Have a good look.
Maybe the colour has dryed over on the cartridge and is preventing future printing.

Tell us your printer model, il see if I can find any evidence of this happening to your model of printer.

I love this new-fangled mentality where if anything at all does something unexpected, it's a virus.

It's not a refilled cartridge is it?

yeah, you can only refill so often. plus if you haven't printed in a while, all you get is black and white (or maybe blue).

IMHO...Refills are a good way to wreck your printer.
McAfee mentions a virus:
Spawns Print Jobs on Network Printers There have been reports from the field that after execution of the virus it sends print jobs to all network printers. Avert has been able to reproduce this in their labs and the worm attempts to print its file contents to network printers.
I believe symantec mentions something about the W32.Bugbear virus affecting printers in some way. I don't believe it was disabling colors though.

They say that the refills are bad to keep people buying the original cartridges.
I never use them refills, the quality is crap. I stick with my (expensive I must say) HP cartridges.

I gave up on inkjet printers because even with orginal ink it better to buy a new printer and sell the old one for $10 or garbig the old one. I don't do enough printing for a printer so I don't have one, ok I have an old color dot marix printer made by panasonic.

I recently reformatted and just last night installed my printer (to print that really awesome paper I pulled out of the air). I forgot the Lexmark crap that pops up while printing TALKS TO YOU. Damn near fell out of my chair when it said "Printing Started" or whatever the hell it was.

Regarding refills, I dont like refill kits. They can be messy, and the sponges inside the carts deteriorate after 2-3 fillngs.
Remanufactured cartridges is where its at. Carrot Ink makes high quality remanufactured carts, as do other top-name ink brands.

don't bother with ink jet, get a lower end laser and use it for everything at home. if you REALLY need color take it to kinko's so it won't look like crap or use a 5-7-whatever tank photo printer if you are printing photo's.

I would just like to say that I found this after a search for"please type your message in the box".
I had to search for that because my search for'they must have completely lost their fucking minds to put some invasive irritating bullshit like this on the their website" did not turn up any results.

I don't know why you guys are badmouthing refills.
I print all the time and have been refilling for years.
I use 2 cartridges of black and 2 of color which I rotate and refill regularly, getting 6-8 refills before replacing them with new ones.
I never have a problem with them as long as I don't run them completely dry and don't overfill.
For my HP psc, whenever I buy a new cartridge, I save the clip on it.
Then when I refill it, I put a piece of tape on the print head and mount the cartridge on the clip until I am ready to use it.
That way I always have a cartridge ready to go.
Just pop it in, run a realignment, refill the old one asap, no problem.
