I was Ur first voter and got 100 % voting the first one - so Ur not alone - We have 5 PC's on home network (3 of them XP Pro's) and lazy me don't want to rise from my chair, easier is to connect remotely and do what U have to do. Also used Remote Registry to export / import things after copying an app over network (so I have no need to use install at the other PC).
Safe? At firewalled home network "everything" is safe - heh...

P.S. My second computer is a mirrored version of this one (Even all same partitions and apps at same places). If I lose something here, I'll get all back there. Can even take system snapshot and import it in here safely...(just to change IP's and oher identify-machine-related-things)

If I'm away from my LAN, I'll use my FTP server to get files, and I just add the whole drive to it so I can access anything. I'll use Remote Desktop if I have to.

When Puttin' up a FTP-Server, it's allways a little risky game, many phreakin' people are watching them out and port-scanning all the time. I have no idea, what they are lookin' for but I have noticed, that they are looking something all the time if I put up a FTP-Server. Must have a good crypted password and firewalled well...

Few times I have on purpose let peeps in my machine, took backtracing all the information up and send it to their webmasters, and they have gotten punished hard!

That's for punishments, but the most innotative idea with that webmaster-e-mailing was one thing : I got new friends out there from U.S to Brits and Germans and we had long informative discussions about security and even telling the latest jokes between messages. Still chatting with a few of them.

So my point is : the more U R aware of security, the more U learn by being active and get new friends all over da globe...
(and get some crackers counting bricks on the wall :wings )
