NEW Anonymous P2P Client version - ANts P2P beta 1.2.9 Protocol 0.7.5

ANts P2P is an anonymous peer-to-peer open source GPL-licensed application written in Java.

ANTs P2P homepage: http://antsp2p.sourceforge.net/
Sourceforge page: http://sourceforge.net/projects/antsp2p/

ANts P2P realizes a third generation P2P net.
It protects your privacy while you are connected and makes you not trackable,
hiding your identity (ip) and crypting everything you are sending/receiving from others.

ANts P2P encrypts all traffic being sent or received from others and proxies traffic between participants in the network to make it harder to determine the originating IP addresses.

Features:
Open Source Java implementation (GNU-GPL license)
Multiple sources download
Swarming from partial files
Automatic resume and sources research over the net
Search by hash, string and structured query
Completely Object-Oriented routing protocol
Point to Point secured comunication: DH(512)-AES(128)
EndPoint to EndPoint secured comunication: DH(512)-AES(128)
Serverless GWebCache-based peer dicovery procedure
IRC based peer discovery system
IRC embeded chat system
Full text search of indexed documents (pdf, html, txt, doc etc) -> QUERY REFERENCE.
Distributed/Decentralized Search engine
HTTP tunneling
ANts allow P2P communications through any kind of HTTP Proxy
ANts allow P2P communications through any kind of NAT or traffic filtering system

Change Log:
Fixed a critical bug related to upload synchronization
GUI synchronization improved
SSL tunnelling - please run ANts P2P on port 443 - let people connect
Even more stable network

The only way to speed up the ANts connection system is to let the net grow. Only with a reasonable number of high speed peers (i.e. peers that handles up to 30 connections) properly configured (firewall, ip etc.) initial connection can be easy and fast. So don't care about connection speed by now... let your node run and it will find peers or they will find it! DON't ASK TOO MUCH TO A NET MADE UP OF 200/300 peers...

Issues I've found:
Seems to take longer to connect than previous versions
Still has confusing firwall warning
IP blocking list has to be updated manually

An anonymous P2P computer network is a particular type of peer-to-peer network in which the users and their nodes are pseudonymous by

default. The primary difference between regular and anonymous networks is in the routing method of their respective network architectures.

These networks allow for unfettered free flow of information, legal or otherwise.

The P2P community's interest in anonymous P2P has increased rapidly in recent years for many reasons, including distrust of government

(especially in undemocratic regimes), and digital imprimatur. Such a network may also appeal to those wishing to share copyrighted music files

illegally - the Recording Industry Association of America has successfully tracked and threatened to sue some users on non-anonymous P2P

networks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anonymous_P2P

Hornet,

Good to see work still being done. Nice job guys, looks like more than a cosmetic fix. :) I'll give it another test. The part about it taking longer to connect does not seem good because it already took too long before, but if it works better now I could live with it. Besides patience is a virtue.

New update, Beta 1.3.0 protocol 0.7.6

Expect more new updates this weekend as I think Gwren will be working on client.

To get connected quickly right click on irc user and request connection.

Also, try and maintain quite a few connections, dsl at least 6 connections and cable at least12 connections.

Please share all your files (note it does take an age to hash files as it does it twice once for ANts and once for ed2k) as you are safe from RIAA.

Now just how the fuck does announcing the release of a new version of a p2p application constitute "spamming"? Being as this is a forum about p2p filesharing applications I would have thought nothing could be further from spamming.

Thanks for the info hornet, look forward to reading more of your posts.

Hey Hornet. I'm using Beta 1.3.0 and am pretty impressed. It correctly was able to get a connection after I specified my correct IP address.

Some things about it though, I think it would be beneficial to have some sort of advanced console that tells what is going on. For instance upon trying to share my 20,000 files it stalled saying "Indexing complete" after only doing 19 files. I waited about five minutes for this to change and it did not so I restarted. Soon I realized that it seems to want to initialize a few things before it begins indexing. I think it would be nice if it said "Indexing paused for initialization. Please wait" or something to that effect.

Questions here. Hope you don't mind: :)

1. If I keep port 443 open are people NOT using ANTS able to connect to that port to see what files I am sharing, or is it kept anonymous. I haven't tested this yet, but figured I'd ask you. What I am worried about is that users would be somehow able to see what I am sharing if they know my IP by other means. I'm pretty sure you guys thought of this, but I'd liek to hear it from you.

2. Where can I get more information on the http tunneling and the ability to publish anonymous websites over ANTS? In the past when I used this client I saw that there was at least one website like this up. I tried finding info on how to do this with all the technical details but found it lacking. I think it is a very nice and useful feature and I'd like to know more about it. If there isn't good documntation on it, please either you or somene else explain it to me or answer my questions and I prommise I will write a howto about it for others in exchange so you'll never have to do it again. :) I really think this feature has promise.

3. Are you looking for some development help? I know java and have worked on another p2p app in the past. I should be able to do some minor things for you when I can find the time and would be happy to help.

Again good job, Ants Team! Last time I used ANTS I had problems getting a connection due to odd NAT errors which I couldn't figure out and I experienced long term connectivity problems when I did have it working. I see the first issue seems good. Hopefully the second was solved too. We'll see. ;)

I have no connection to Gwren the sole developer of ANts P2P although I have studied the code. Your suggestion seems like a good idea. Best

to post it to Sourceforge website - feature request https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?atid=645589&group_id=106782&func=browse (Gwren has

actioned many of these request in the past).

On ANts P2P you cannot tell what files a neighbour is sharing. When you do a search files are not related in anyway to IP address AND also you

see files on the entire network NOT just on the IP addresses (gateways) that you are connected to. See MUTE mailing list for more discussion on

how ANts P2P works (ANts P2P is really MUTE written in Java with many additional features and enhancements)

See http://antsp2p.sourceforge.net/antsp2phelp/HttpConnections.htm and "How to set up a Webpage on Ants" by Tsafa

3. Are you looking for some development help? I know java and have worked on another p2p app in the past. I should be able to do some minor

Gwren, is the sole developer. He works alone. As he said,

"I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
and I'm the only one and I walk alone".

LOL

ANts is opensource so anyone can add to code and then forward suggestions to Gwren or start their own project.

Again good job, Ants Team! Last time I used ANTS I had problems getting a connection due to odd NAT errors which I couldn't figure out and I

experienced long term connectivity problems when I did have it working. I see the first issue seems good. Hopefully the second was solved

too. We'll see. ;)

Thanks and believe it or not we are not a team. There is only Gwren. Everybody else including me work TOTALLY independantly we have no

connection at all other than we want to see P2P progress rather than being consigned to the dustbin (trash can) of history.

Spooky this thread is for Ants and they have right to discuss it in here.
Keep on topic and don't stoke tensions.

we don't always have to agree but harrassing them in their thread is like them spamming it in the other threads not related to Ants
and so we have the choice of not reading these threads just as much as they have a choice not reading any of the other numerous threads on the board.

just my 2 cents.......

Actually Im fully in favour of what gwen is trying to do. I dont dislike the program, and have tried to keep certain people like ABC from spamming about it so as to not piss people off about the work in progress.
