Sudden NAT problem with Azureus

Recently I signed up for Verizon DSL. But once plugging everytime up (Modem directly into the computer) bit torrent had slow speeds (5kb/sec) while on my old Knology cable, speeds were pretty fast (around 30-120 kb/sec depending on peers and seeders.) I'm not running a firewall or anything, as of now, and everytime I do a firewall/NAT check on Azureus I get a NAT error. I went through the guides for quickening BitTorrent's speed, but nothing seemed to work, I'm not using a router or anything so I'm wondering what the problem could be.

I'm using Windows XP Home, SP2
Verizon DSL with no router (plugged right into my computer)
Firewalls are turned off

Sounds like Verizon are blocking your ports.

Anyway I can fix this?

I changed back to my cable and it's still giving me a NAT error I just checked...any ideas what it could be? Everything was fine just a few days ago

What changes did you do on your computer besides changing from cable to Verizon?

That's part of the problem. I had a roomate hook it up because I was at work, I know he put in the CD (even though I told him for the modem all he'll need to is plug it in basically, but he insisted on trying to make out router work so he installed the CD that came with the modem, and router. I uninstalled them, and even did a system restore.

Okay, I went to grc.com and got a port check done, it seems just about ALL of my ports are on 'stealth' or 'closed' could this possibly be part of my problem? I really feel like figuring this out since there's a thai flic I wanted to DL and I'm no where near patient enough to DL a 1.5 gb file at only 5 kb a second. Lol

I believe Verizon ISP offer firewall protection, try HOME on your browser's URL address bar then press Go. See what comes up then report back!
