hi everyone
i have a d-link dsl 302G modem in addition to a d-link DES-1005D switch and im trying to do some port forwarding so my azureus can run without a NAT problem but when i type my default gateway address, which is 10.1.1.1, into internet explorer, a login popup prompt should appear (as said at http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DSL-302G/Azureus.htm) however, this login prompt never appears and instead, loads a completely different page with statistics about my internet connection. it is supposed to appear so i can log into and configure my modem. can anyone suggest a reason or better yet, a solution to this because as soon as i fix this problem, i should be able to continue with the port forwarding. if anyone could plz help me, it would be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU in advance.

I have some advice for you
STOP THAT
Of course it's your cable modem ISP configuration page
Read the D-Link manual again, your address should be 192.168.0.?
Try .1 you might get lucky
And even if this is the most crack filled day of my life, you still should RTFM
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=d-link+dsl+302G++++++++++++log+on
Port Forwarding for the Dlink DSL-302G Router. ... default the username is admin, and the password is admin. Click the Ok button to log in to your router. ...
Just give me your freakin IP and I WILL DO IT for you!

Unless you hit the right IP, you'll never get that prompt

The IP you provided is non-sensicle meaning there is no D-Link router with an ip addy like that.
(serious, I have never heard of a router with weird numbers like that for a default gateway)
Don't get frustrated, use google and your model number to acertain the correct IP
(or read the rest of my post :P)
it shoudl read 192.168.1."something"
for example that is the defaut gateway addy for my linksys.
D-link as Krell mentioned is pretty much always:
192.168.0."something"
for your model of hardware I am pretty sure you are going to have
192.168.0.2 as the default gateway.
Edit:More than sure that's your default gateway.
type that into I.E and your log in box will appear, then go with the port forwarding set up as per the manual.
Good luck

You need to find the correct i.p of the router. To do this go
start->run, then type cmd. In the command window type ipconfig, you will get the following (note xxx are just arbitrary i.p's)
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . ..xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . ..xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
The address of the router will be the ip. of "Default Gateway".

yeh, i did the cmd thing in run but my default gateway is 10.1.1.1 and my ip address is 10.1.1.4 but my external ip address is 220.238.xxx.xxx and when i type 10.1.1.1 the login prompt doesnt come up and if i type 10.1.1.4, it says there is no such page. i called my isp, optus, and they said that its because of their firmware and that if i wanted to get rid of it, i would have to flash it but that would void my warranty...

Thanks, I'll add that ISP to my shitlist. Sometimes you can't beleive the tech support people though. Try this. Get to a Dos prompt or command shell and type:
ping 10.1.1.4 <ENTER>
what happens?
Btw, Krell and moneoa are right. That is a pretty screwy IP for a default router setup. Try pinging and let us know what comes back.

ok i did the pinging thing with 10.1.1.4 and here r the results:
pinging 10.1.1.4 with 32 bytes of data:
bytes = 32, time < 1ms, TTL = 128
bytes = 32, time < 1ms, TTL = 128
bytes = 32, time < 1ms, TTL = 128
bytes = 32, time < 1ms, TTL = 128
ping statisitic for 10.1.1.4:
packets: sent = 4, received = 4, lost = 0
approximate round trip times in milliseconds
minimum: 0ms, maximum: 0ms, average: 0ms
ive no idea how that will help this problem ... i hope this makes sense

Sorry I didn't read the part where you said you were getting a statistics page with information. The purpose of the ping was to see if something was even there in the first place. What is the statistics page you are getting - what does the title say, what are the options and anything else you can share so that it can be identified.
Also check out krells thread like he says. But don't let the bastard take your bank account! j/k

all it says is like how long ive been connected to the internet and my ip address
ive checked all the options and none lead me to the page with the login prompt or anything beyond that:
connection status
advanced diagnostics
change password
advanced network setup
help index
as i said, ive checked all the options and none r of any use for port forwarding
optus said that i wont get the login prompt because of their firmware so i guess thats why :(

Oh well, if they have some locked down piece of shit modem so they can dick with you about how you regulate your ports, then get yor OWN modem, and tell them to go fuck a goat.
Dude get a linksys BROADBAND router, ONE router, and be done with it.

Here is how you do it:
When you type in 10.1.1.1, it will send you to the optus page, which will show something like:
10.1.1.1/user/hello/whatever.asp - or something along those lines (sorry i can't remember the directory names).
You need to change it so it reads:
10.1.1.1/user/hello1/whatever.asp (just add a 1 next to one of the directory names - I think it was the second one) - this will take you to the actual modem.
EDIT: Then to get to port forward, you gotta click on 'WAN', then 'NAT' on the left hand side, and a page will load in the middle - there is a drop down list, and you gotta change the drop down list to something else, which will then enable you to forward ports.

You're awesome if this actually helps fix his problem.
Speaking of which, what is wrong with some of the ISPs that do this kind of BS like port blocking? Especially the ones that try to lock you in on contracts *cough* clearwire *cough*.

I'm not sure but I think the guy said he tried to call them but was told it was his firmware and that was that. I am feeling a litle sick today though and the reading comprehension is suffering. ;)
I wouldn't be surprised at all if what the guy suggested actually worked and the CSR just didn't know what they were talking about. Happens a lot. Reminds me of when I was talking for two hours with a linksys rep who told me a certain router could work with AOL Cable Broadband Networking. I asked right away: "Will it work with this router?" which she said yes. So I said "Okay, please show me how". Finally at the end (of two hours) she admits her supervisor (without saying it diorectly) was wrong and that this router model won't work. I just kind of laughed and said "Okay, thanks" because I knew the game and how the BS works in CS. Most reps don't have access to all the information they need. Usually the supervisors are clueless on technical manners (but try to "look good" and "sound like they know") To get anywhere you have to speak to the highest level tech support, and even then it can be a crap shoot.
