iTunes, the most popular online music store, began selling about 2,000 music videos and episodes of ABC's "Desperate Housewives" and "Lost" for $1.99 (1.12 pounds) on October 12. The debut coincided with the launch of a new generation of Apple's iPod digital music player that can play video on its 2.5-inch color screen. Technology, media and Wall Street analysts are eyeing Apple's performance for validation that a market for legal downloading of videos exists. Topping the list of big sellers were music videos by Michael Jackson, Fatboy Slim and Kanye West, as well as episodes of ABC shows. "Selling one million videos in less than 20 days strongly suggests there is a market for legal downloads," Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, said in a statement. "Our next challenge is to broaden our content offerings."

... to spend 2 bucks to watch such ultra-compressed garbage on a silly 2.5" screen. It would be a better investment to invest in a new standalone DVD recorder and record the programs with a decent quality directly from TV instead of this low resolution crap...or download them with eMule or Bittorrent.

Pathetic video players are old news and apple finally catches on and all of a sudden everyone has one. Same with the ipod. When I originally had the first gen and 2nd gen ipods everyone laughed and said mp3 players suck. Now they are all using them. Same thing with my video player. Its sad how people will actually pay for digital videos.

You could download them from usenet in mpeg form or "Xvid or dvdrip.. and convert them to dvd format and burn it on a dvd to watch at home. Who wants to watch videos on the go? A movie or tv episode maybe.

Videos on the go on 2.5" screen? Nah, even my screen on the PSP player can do better!
