Is tool really considered metal?
I dont listen to metal but the last metal band I did enjoy was called Testament. Some of their stuff is like the classic Metallica...good stuff.

That's a good question. It's more like a blend of a ton of different styles of music into one, but to avoid naming them alot of people just put it under metal. All the timeing is so precise, and the layering in their songs. Normally I'm more for hard rock and alternative, but Tool is good stuff that would make Mozart proud.

GNR metal?

Hmmm.

I listen to the gamut of metal. From the 80's to current day. Accept to Fear Factory. Pretty much all that was mentioned in this thread and then some.

I dunno.

It was all sarcasm. Though, I do work with a dipwit that got a G n R tattoo... and still thinks it's cool. Bah.

I actually don't metal out too much. Heavy thrash/scream shit is just as much a turn off to me as John Mayer, or bling rap.

Testament are fantastic. Old school thrash, the way I like it. Unfortunately, it meant they weren't as commercially successful as other thrash bands who moved along with the times but I love them. Pantera are also great, to answer the OP's question.
