Hi.. Im on ADSL 512/128 and im getting MAXIMUM 101Kb/s and averaging 95Kb/s. Even when im browsing the net with Overnet running.. pages don't really take that long to load and its still downloading around 90Kb/s. I have pics but it comes up with an error when i try to upload them.

Overnet is the bomb! :bom:

Nope, it just has to be a valid image smaller that 640 x 480.

Open ZP with your normal browser, not within Overnet. Then try again.

Lol, you think hiding the rate of download would trick us? That is impossible to be Kb/s, as notbob said. It's B/s not K/bs. What I don't understand is why go through the trouble and make this thread?

Lol im not hiding the download rate rofl... im hiding the upload rate because its irrelevant.

Auggie2k

Well if it's irrevelent then show it because it won't effect anything.

It's impossible to get speeds of 96 Kb/s on average with a 512K line. The max as notbob said is 64 Kb/s. Your readings are in B/s.

So KB/s is different to Kb/s?

Auggie2k
October 7th, 2005, 10:19 AM
Basically, KB is kilobyte and Kb is kilobit and there are 8 bits in a byte, so 80 Kb/s would be the same as 10KB/s. For you to be maxing overnet, your bandwidth usage would be about 500 Kb/s, approx 60 KB/s.

Shareaza scared the hell out of me before because I thought I was downloading at about a meg/second and on a dial-up but I soon learned.

That doesn't make sense then because your recorded speeds are impossible with a 512 line. Are you sure that's your exact connection, I had a 512 connection before with a 1Mb speed burst before so if you have that then things clear up a bit. But you cant know for sure because the readings in the taskbar don't show a value.

those pictures are useless. even at 600x800 the print is unreadable

trust me it's kilobits, (kb) not kilobytes (kB)

check out a speed test at www.dslreports.com and all will be clear

I know... its taken me ages playing around to get such a good download with Overnet...

When it sucked it was like 44KB/s... Anyway some of the upload could be mistaken for the download I noticed a few times (had user transferring but file size was staying the same).

Meh... still downloads fast!!!

overnet/edonkey has had a bug that shows the wrong speeds up until 1.4b

overnet will always have this bug as it hasnt been in development for ages.

Do you know how it shows the speed wrong?

Uploads mixed with downloads/incorrect download rate?

Overnet, is the leader of P2P content.

If it's not on Overnet, It's not going to be on the eDonkey network, Gnutella network, and indeed Bittorrent network either. That goes for the useless networks out there, ie Ares (which only has popular music as it's resource, and indeed speed. infact, two people are sharing Sygate firewall and NOD32 Anti-Virus), Fastrack, which is so unresourceful it stinks. Last but not least... the all amazing, Filtopia. Enough said.

Certianly you'll get better speeds on Bittorrent and Gnutella, most of the time compared to Overnet. But indeed, you'll find better speeds on Overnet on other days, that's just P2P. On the contrary, P2P isn't about speed, it's about content.

Contrary to what the thread is about, (issues surrounding correct transfer rates), I felt the need to emphisize the greatness of the Overnet network.

a simple case of mixup between bit and byte. Now please close this stupid thread.
