Sometimes being a prick can backfire on you....

A substitute teacher in Lake County, Fla., was terminated and banned from teaching in the county after he ripped out a student's insulin pump during class apparently thinking it was a ringing cell phone, according to a Local 6 News report.

Teachers, just like cops, acting up thinking they got all the power. What a dumbass, that could have killed him if it wasn't already beeping.

This was an isolated incident. Stuff like this doesn't occur that often. If it did, why would anyone bother posting it? it wouldn't be news.

And for the record, teachers don't get the credit they deserve. Most don't get paid all too well... maybe in the 30-50K range, which isn't nearly as well off as many of their college-graduate peers. Yeah, they get the summer off, but its mostly made up for by creating lesson plans and grading homework. The worst part though, is that they have to deal with dozens of kids, some of whom may very well be the offspring of satan. My point is, teachers don't do what they do to make your life harder. They are there to help you.

Don't get me wrong though... I'm not at all condoning what this guy did. He deserves to be fired and much worse. But very few teachers are asshats like this guy.

Not really a fan of teachers as one of them grabbed my brother by his ear when he was 8 and REPEATEDLY banged his head against the door.

This wasn't when you could hits pupils, this was when I was in school as well, a few years back.

He did this apparently because my brother wouldn't stop making loud noises and disrupting the class.

My brother was making noises because he was having one of the most SEVERE asthma attacks in his life.

The teacher got wait for this... a weeks wages fine! Thats it. He is still teaching today in the same school!

I highly doubt its an isolated incident. There are good and bad teachers everywhere. What gives the right for a teacher to put their hands on a student? I say only if they have to protect themselves. As of late alot of teachers get away with alot of bullshit.

I think more of the problem is people go into teaching with idealistic ideas, and then they meet the political system behind the public schools, and abandon all hope.

I would love the work of teaching, I would hate the job.

Even if it was a cellphone however and ripped it out and broke it the teacher or the school wouldve been 100 percent liable in every way.

this is one of those times where i feel bad for both parties. obviously, the kid is the one i feel worse for- he was probably mortified on top of the physical trauma. my niece is type 1 diabetic and went low in class once. the other kids treated her like a leper for weeks afterwards, because they didn't understand. as for the teacher, i definitely don't condone what he did. but as a substitute, he was probably subjected to at least a bit of crap to get to that point of pique. (remember how vile we were to substitutes? come on, be honest now.) maybe i'm wrong, maybe the guy is an "asshat" pure and simple, as someone eloquently put it. beginning to think there should be sensitivity training for some professions, not just teachers. doctors are a prime example. but that's a whole other thread.

I don't see what the big deal is. If this thing was sitting on the guys desk and started beeping, then it was a pretty reasonable assumption it was a phone, in which case the teacher was well within his rights to take it.

Not only should this teacher be reinstated but I think the child in question should face some type of discipline for not alerting the school staff that he was hooked up to a medical device.

There's nothing quite so ugly as the USA Education system. I love teachers though. Teachers are the best! I give teachers apples.

...in other, unrelated news, did you hear in the Governator's special elections over in California, someone has the bright new idea to make up for corporate theft, subsidies, and real estate rackets, by cutting the education budget? There's two bills even!

Actually, a girl I was in highschool with was allowed to keep a cell phone on her at all times because her father was in poor health. No idea why they didn't enforce normal channels, but they didn't.

Sadly teachers don't actually make the big bucks. The teachers here in BC are actually on strike right now because they havent gotten any kind of pay increase in six years and class sizes are getting waaay to large. There are several other reasons, if you're interest google it. Must be on the net somewhere.

IMO in my school anyway[in maple ridge bc], class sizes are average 26 people.
If you look at the average from a few years ago[24, class sizes havn't really gone up mutch[in a school with an aprox population of 1400[built for 750[don't veven get me started on minoovering around that]]]
The highest class size in my school I know of is 30 students, and that's almost to many students but I think the teachers shouldn't even mention class sizes.
This strike pisses me off, I'm a part time student and don't need anymore time off, so IMO, there is no reason to get happy. I mean, it's not like I need double time off, ur... maybe I do but well... :P
I personally have seen people get fucked over because of the way the school system is run in bc, so I support the teachers, I jsust wish the provincal government wasn't this fucking idiotic and refusing to budge at all for 6 months to bring this protest wich they really can't end to happen.
It is not a strike.

OK, that is quite a bit less than they earn in the UK, so their salary must be shit. Good luck to them and their strike action.

Decline in BC, but in some other provinces they are attempting to improve. Unfortunately education often takes a backseat to the greasing of the palms of those that support goverments. Its a similar problem in most countries.

At my school my average class size is about 30-33. The only exception to this being my PE class which is only 24. My school is built for about 1200 students and it currently holds 1800-1900. The hallways are packed to max capacity at breaks and in the morning. The middle school I attended last year wasn't as bad, but still over crowded, 450 max capacity 850+ students in attendance. I definately feel that teachers deserve what they are asking for. Especially when it comes to money, they don't get nearly what they deserve.
