first off I would like to give all the new people here a BIG, FRIENDLY, WELCOME. :bom:
Now I imagine a lot of people will be looking for the reasons for WinMX not working. To answer that question, I would like to link you to a front page article that has some info on that. WinMX offline - RIAA wins? Ya Right! (http://www.zeropaid.com/news/5715/WinMX+offline+-+RIAA+wins%3F+Ya+Right%21/)
After you have read that, I am sure you are wondering where to go for your fix. Well I have some suggestions. First off check out the File sharing programs page (http://www.zeropaid.com/programs/index.php?scatid=58)
Once you have done that, you might be wondering which one is the best. There is no true answer to that. But to do my best, I will reccomend my personal favorites.
limewire, which uses java but is ever improving (http://limewire.com)
shareaza, the official G2 client. (http://shareaza.sourceforge.net/)
Ares, newly open source, lots of content, and very fast. (http://aresgalaxy.sf.net)
Soulseek, a great piece of software, but can be slightly slow downloading (http://slsknet.org)
I hope all this info is of help, and if you're wondering why I did not list bittorrent, it is because it is not exactly a replacement for winmx in the way it works.
Feel free to comment if you have anything to add.

ed2k networks ... very big queues ... don't like edonke that much.
I like the Gnutella/Gnutella2/Ares Networks better ... not that big queues as the donkey,

Hello,
I liked WinMX for is ability to handle Japanese language and its large Japanese content (files with names in Japanese etc). Does any one know what other file-share programs can handle Japanese and have a lot of Japanese content? Thank you very much,

or alternatively, log onto one of the SlavaNap networks:- www.balladnetwork.com
Winmx is well know there :) ...but all this is probably all ready well know by the experienced Winmx user whose protocol includes access to SlavaNap servers.
You will still be able to use your winmx clients, no need for another... :D
Greetings and take care, nigel

For anyone interrested There is a slight mod to the Winmx client that works really well. It filters many bad search results planted by the RIAA and such. Ive been running it a few days and its a big improvement for the winmx community. Download it here http://www.winmxgroup.com/

WinMX is alive! and i love it :) The new patch is very good, it removes fake search results! For music, WinMX is a very good choise! You can download a working WinMX here: http://www.winmxgroup.com as Mel_Smileys said ;) And share files! The user-base isn't that big on WinMX now so there aren't so much files as it was before i got shut down ;) WinMX kicks ass ;)

Glad youve joined us P2P_G. I think another reason that Winmx may be working better these days is the multi peer cache's that are out there. When Winmx.com was up and doing its job I would often lose all my ques once a day and had troube searching the whole netwrok with out using the old, connect-disconnect-reconnect trick. Thats no longer needed. The whole network has become realy tight, ironic, don't ya think?

The corperations goverment are trying to control the net,
It's the people's net , keep it free and un-controled.
Let's take back the government ! They are supposed to represent the people, not themselves and the one worlders.......

WinMX has always worked well for me
but then i have been with mx since near the beginning, so... i like it for the ability to dl movies. i can get most releases about three months before they come out into theatres. not to mention games and music. i have tried ares and i hate the interface and the download engine in general. i used imesh for a while before it was a known spyware client, and bittorrent got extremely slow speeds. winmx is my first love and i will always use it and help other people to learn, fix and patch it.
but thats me. :)

Shhhhhhh, don't tell shawners that! IF he finds out he'll run winmx into the ground by mentioning it in ever thread and subforum on ZP!

hi winmx was great, i think its best alternative is not a single network, if you want a perticular file and got its torrent with more seeds and leechs, then the speed you got is very good, for files not available in bittorrent network, use shareaza for G2 and G1 network and search the file. and download if got more peers. otherwise use edonkey network, you will get file with more peers and a que without end, you have to leave your software and internet running for one or two days before proper download speed you get. soulseek is still good for mp3s, you may even try "Direct Connect"

Or since winmx is still around and the community is working on keeping it going, making it better weeding out fakes, ect, stick with Winmx.
This thread was started when it was thought winmx was gone forvever. Its been back and now works better than ever.

I was kinda hoping it was gone forever... I like winmx and used it as my main P2P software for 2 years. Then I was fed up with it not having some of the features of the advancing networks. Winmx just kept getting more stale.. So I moved on to better things at the time. for me that is. but you see, my dad did not want to advance he didn't want to use a program that would get stuff faster. (winmx isn't very fast.) and not have half of the files be corrupt.
When This thread was made it was pretty much made as proof to my dad that winmx was officially dead (for a very short time) and that he needed to move on. So he did. To ares. And now I am happy, he is happy, And winmx is back, And I am using it and luckily he is not :)
Winmx reminds me of the golden days it does :)

Ares, IMO, is the worst network out there. But youre right, winmx is not fast for big files but it does have a great community and its really easy to find and keep up with friends there. Its more than just a way to get files or rather its just different from the other networks. People get to know each other and help one another out. People shouldn't really worry about what other people like to use. If it made your dad happy then that should have been good enough for you.
To me its the best place to be. I love talking to the people there, sharing with my friends without having to worry if they work for the MPAA and talking to people with similar tastes to get files I might other wise have missed. Its not about how greedy I can be and try to grab every file I can even if I want it or not, its about community and I hope that wonderful community never dies.
I have no reason why people wish so much bad luck on this community. Its full of nice people who love P2P.
Also, I never end up with corrupted files. There was a time this was a problem but thats been a long time ago. Most people are now smart enough to not share partial downloads or not to download from people sharing partial content.
P.S. EMM, sorry i gave up working on the flash animation for your web site. I got frustrated with flash and sort of got side tracked and never picked it back up to try and learn it again. I can do simple stuff but I was not satisfied with doing merely simple results. again sorry, I should have PM'ed you but I felt bad for letting you down

thank you for letting me know :) My life's gotten really hectic and I have had absolutely no time to work on the website anyway. I am kinda glad you didn't do it. I pretty much ended up with the same results with the website... I couldn't get it the way I wanted. I felt Like I let you and multi down. I should really talk to multi though. I bet he thinks something happened to me @_@

What amazes me is that we still have people who would rather start their own thread rather than looking at the ones at the top of this thread page. if hed have simply looked hed have seen that mx works and not wasted his time. but i could be wrong and hes a bored as i am, being the antisocial bastard that i am, and just wanbted company.....everyone give him a hug.
