My roommate is moving to California next week, and the place that he's movin' into will already have wireless internet access. So, since I'm not to familiar with wireless connections yet, I figured I'd come here to ask.

Anyway, if he installs a PCI wireless card, like a Linksys card or something, is that all he should need? Just install the card, drivers, and scan for the network?

Is there a certain card to use than linksys?

Thanks

Linksys makes very good cards, and provided there is a wireless network nearby, thats all you need.

You can use netstumbler for a more detailed site scan.

Any wireless card will do, although he will need the wep/wpa key to be configured if the network is restricted.

Thanks for the replies! I don't think it's restricted, the landlord told him that everyone uses it, so why pay for it?!
