i bought the AOE II and expansion a few years ago and since then the disks have gotten really scratched up. i called ms and told them my problem, and asked if i sent in the cds, could i get new ones and they keep the ones i send in. The guy said no, they dont do that, but i could buy AOE II for 29.99, and the expansion for 19.99 from any retailer that sells computer games. i told him that didnt help me and i wasnt going to pay for a game that i already owned.

so....I was at a lan one night, and a friend of mine said if only i had AOE II he would smoke me in it. I laughed and said give me the disks and ill show you what smoking is. He didnt have them, so i copied the files from his computer to mine, and i smoked him BAD.

ANYWHO. I dont have any sound for AOE II or the expansion. All i have is the music on the main menu, and i hear birds churt, and a owl hoot once in a while during the game, but none of the villagers talk, no alerts, no building noises, nothing. Makes the game kinda boring. The updates wont work, they say i dont have it installed on my computer, since i didnt use the install from the disks.

I have the sound files, but i might be missing somthing. Below are screen shots on my AOE 2 folder, im i missing something?

I don't know how good you are with computer. But, you can try to have your friend send you a copy of registry key to be merge into your reg. file. Once you have it in your reg. file, then reboot your computer so Windows knows you have the game. If you still have problems, then you'll need to going into the registry key & modify those entries yourself or just buy the game & re-install it!

BTW, your question really belongs in the Game section, not here.

The registry wouldn't be causing me to have sound problem would it? I would just need to add registry entries to tell windows i have it installed right?

Windows uses registry to know what you have installed plus your game settings, which the game also uses to play the game with your preferences!

I assume you the myth rip( setup.bat is a clue), in thati have attached the reg setup from my installation. I know its an exe, so feel free to scan it if you wish. I can assure you its the correct regsetup.
