This one is for the loony books, but if it proves true I think we're in for big changes in the industry. Atom Chip Corp. is promising to show off a laptop with their new 6.8GHz CPU, which would be impressive enough if it weren't for the laptop's other key feature: a "Quantum-Optical" hard drive with a terabyte of solid state non-volatile storage. If this is what I think it is, the speed advantage over traditional hard drives should be monumental.

IF this is a true story, it would be awesome. But how would a company that nobody has even heard of, manage to suddenly come out with a 6.8 ghz CPU chip that is faster than anything either Intel or AMD is currently producing? To me, that seems a little far fetched.
And then you say that they have also come out with a faster hard drive? I guess this new hard drive is supposed to be faster than a 10,000 rpm western digital SATA drive, huh? Still a stretch.
So I guess this will be big news and be on all the technology sites if it is true. But if it is NOT, then it will fizzle out and people will realize that it was just a big, fat lie.

I highly doubt that the technologies that are supposed to be displayed are more advanced than the likes of those by intel or AMD. Both companies probably have comprable technologies, but they probably aren't cheap enough yet to produce on a mass scale.

I remember thinking that 1 gig HDDs were fucking insanely useless (what to do with all that space)
Or remember when A pentium 233 with MMX technology was the shit to have.
It all seems insane until you actually need it.,

the reason for the low quality images are .
1. bandwidth if the image was high quality for it's size then the file would be several megs and i doubt any dialup users want to download a 5 meg jpg file.
2. low quality makes it not worth hotlinking and or stealing the image for their site especially art shops selling posters someone can download the image from the site and not have to buy the poster.
most nv ram is used in the firmware section of hardware and is only a few k to a few hundred k and it takes several minutes to flash firmware so having a tb of firmware type ram would be the same as a audio cassette being able to hold a gig ( remember in the 70's and 80's computers recorded to normal audio cassettes like the same ones you used to play in walkmans and boom boxes and used by older answering machines? they only may have held a couple k maybe 100k or something.)
it's a big prank. Look at the fucking website, it's pretty amateur oh and the pictures are fairly low quality too.

It's been proven to be a fake on NUMEROUS websites.
EDIT: And PLEASE take this off the news. It's fake!

For example, on why it's fake:

I love the Russian tab! And the commas instead of periods.
Also, XP doesn't support 1 TB of RAM.
Also, 4 X 1.7GHz Intel Pentium Ms do not make one 6.8 GHz CPU.
http://atomchip.com/db4/00366/atomchip.com/_uimages/256Mx6M.jpg
I love how the "optical RAM" is in reality a 1/8" headphone audio jack.
Also, they took a lens assembly out of a DVD Burner and called it a Quantum processor. roofles

Not even a good photoshop. Clearly edited.

While it's true that the article is fake, there are hard drives faster than 10k SATA drive.
15k SCSI drives are one......and there actually are solid-state hard drives that are similar to what is in the article, that are both fast and as expensive as fuck.

its funny news :)
and of course... most of that is not impossible, just highly improbably. let tech evolve, not ... revolve? Anyway, steady evolution helps the market prepare.

oh and you guys know that you can edit those windows without photoshop? a lovely thing called a hex editor, and then you really cant say that its a fake or photoshopped for sure. Just change the values and displayed info in the RAM and bam, it looks geniune.

True, good point. I can remeber in the good 'ol DOS days, 8 MB of RAM was a lot!
I still have an old 16 bit Compaq with DOS/Win 3.1. Fun to mess around with. I want to network it with my Apple Mac Classic, hehe. I wish I still had my old Tandy (IBM clone) unix, but it got mold damage :(
Remember those old floppy disks? Remember Commadore? Friggin' great!

bad app, or bad programmer? I find java very useful as a cross platform means of network communication. Great for C/S networking.

bad platform. JRE is slow.
but its easy, cross-platform, scalable and can produce some very beautiful apps (like azureus, thinkfree office, etc.)
but it still eats ram.

Yeah, take this down - this is 100% fake. Besides that fact that there's no way this could exist, look at this picture: http://atomchip.com/db4/00366/atomchip.com/_uimages/RAMComp2.jpg The "1TB" is far too crisp, and it's slightly out of perspective on the chip. FAKE!

Unless they are seeking investors I see no reason that it would be fake. If they are seeking investors then my red flags may go up. I wouldnt piss on them just for being the small guy. Il admit at first i was skeptical but the guy has won a bunch of awards and is going to be at ces. I guess we just have to wait till ces and hope for the best.
When you think about it look at some of the current projects companies are working on,
- dna processors/h/d http://computer.howstuffworks.com/dna-computer.htm
- quatum processors http://computer.howstuffworks.com/quantum-computer.htm
- Holographic Memory http://computer.howstuffworks.com/holographic-memory.htm
- Magnetic ram (hasnt been much information how how much this will change the market)
Theres a bunch new solutions to the mounting problems with silicon chips and the need for more ram and space. Now big companies are working on there own ideas why is it so hard to think that maybe someone thought of a new one. The rca headphone adapter makes me think that they may have decided on a new transfering method. Instead of dooing the current trend of multiple pins. Im not sure. Im just saying wait and see it could be true. To me it seems similar to the holographic memory but i could be wrong.

What is that CPU they are using? The Quantum-Flux Capacitor?? HAHAHA. This junk-website is so bogus I am shocked I wasted all of thirty seconds to add something about them on this thread.
Kids, beware.
