internet connection question..please HELP

ok..im a noob at this stuff so, bear with me please...
i go to a college campus and they have "fortunatly" opened up the ports in order for me to play counter-strike..however, they have not opened up the ports for IRC..
but basically, what i did was, i found a way to use a program to connect to a server in JAPAN, which allows me to have access to IRC because i am sharing the connection in JAPAN without the port blocking restrictions..however, this means therefore, that i have TWO internet connections going on at the same time..one in JAPAN and one in the US..however, when i am using the program to use the JAPAN connection, i cannot connect to any servers on counter-strike because i am using the JAPAN connection, which makes it too far to connect to any US Servers..

whew..so basically, i was wondering if there was a way to configure my two connections so that i can use the JAPAN connection for IRC while i can still use the US connection for counter-strike and other programs..in a nutshell, i want to be able to use both connections at the same time without problems with switching from one to the other..

Is this a separate connection or a proxy server? Your campus allows you to connect to the Internet right? Or is it an intranet? If you are connecting to Japan, then of course you can connect outside your campus.

I would find out what all ports are open through their firewall, and just use one of those ports for IRC. Remember, you can use any port you wish for *app on your end, it is a matter of what is allowed through your school's routers. Find out what ports you can use, whatever other than counter strike. At least port 80 has got to be open, unless you are instructed otherwise to configure your web browser.

What are you trying to do with IRC? Chat? Download content? Create your own IRC server?

Will Chatzilla (http://www.hacksrus.com/%7Eginda/chatzilla/) work for you? It is a Mozilla Extension. I would try that, using your campus connection. I'm willing to bet this "Japan" connection is a proxy. Also, if this proxy works, can't you just use that for Counter-Strike as well? Or is your Counter-Strike on only a Private LAN?
