I have a large file (440 Mb) which has taken me over a week to download. After completing it is nowhere to be found on my computer. The downloadxxxxxxxxxxxxx.dat file is still in the download folder, but doesn't show up in "Traffic".
Can this file be salvaged or do I need to start the download over again?

Just change the filename.ext, in this case filename.dat to filename.avi or filename.exe (whatever you were downloading). Then double click it to play it or install it. If that doesn't work, the file may be corrutped so you may have to re-download it again!

just a comment on this, Ive noticed that exact thing happen especially if kazaa is installed across drives, like if the download folder is on another drive than kazaa itself. Ya had to do the renaming trick on morpheus sometimes too tho..

I DL to my main drive an store on a 2nd an 3rd drive. Then when I'm not DL shit I switch to the other drive to share. It's a bitch but it works well. Also be careful when you're system crashes you lose DL's sometimes. I've noticed if you refresh the share folder while you're DL it happens less.
Peace all, Later
