Just did a speed test ..

at dslreports.com and according to them my download speed is 902 ,upload is 252.I'm downloading a certain file right now.It peaked at 35.2 kb/s down,and is only averaging around 4.something kb/s up.However,my download speed is constantly throughout the file between 17 and 20 kb/s.Is this normal,or should i be doing something to up my speeds?

That depends on many things, what program are you using first of all. Although even without knowing what program you are using there are many factors that determine your speed for downloading a file. The person you are downloading from has a great effect on your speed if they can only upload at 20kb/s then thats the only speed your gonna get the file at. If the person is uploading to multiple users then thats gonna affect the speed. The number of sources when retrieving the file greatly affects speed. But your condition seems like the average. I have a 1.5mb/s line according to that site yet usually the fastest i get a file is 150kb/s

Your download speed for THAT File is what it is, stop worrying about it, you have little to no control over it.

Secondly, doing a speed test while using P2P is MEANINGLESS, with very few exceptions

Now, with a clear cache, and from a fresh reboot, with NOTHING ELSE running dslreports test is great.


What you need to start observing is, how many SEEDERS there are, and if there are few, go get a life. If theres 2 dozen, and theres still no bandwidth, then we might have some suspicions.

Thanks for explaining it to me.I'm using Azureus.Currently the seeds says 34 (128),and peers 43 (461).Current down speeds are 7.0 kb/s (yikes),and up are still basically the same.I'm only 28% done with the file,so i guess it will be awhile before it will be done.

Yah that sounds a wee bit low to me, but again, you may not be connected to all of them, and they may just be no bandwidth greedy SOBs.

well the leechers out number the peers on that torrent so i guess it could be normal to have lowish speeds for a while,but really it depends on lots of different stuff when on BT best thing to do is to go find a torrent with just peers and maybe a few leechers and see what speeds you get.

I just remembered are you running windows xp with service pack 2, I duno if this is still a issue with filesharing programs but you may have to open up more connections. There was a patch floating around a little while back

Under System,theres a Warning next to Tcpip (twice?) and Dhcp whatever that means.

I do a speed test on usenet.. 2.5 or 305kbs downstream =)

my speed is 512KB (4mbps) / 48K (384k)
I've seen speeds around 400K from websites (Firefox lies about download speeds! It's given me speeds over 1MBps)

My up hovers around 55K max on a good day. But I never let it go that high, because it'll saturate the modems bandwidth.

Would it hurt anything if i downloaded the patch anyways? The TCPIP Warning states " TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts. ".

Theres an error also as follows.."The device, \Device\CdRom0, has a bad block."

wtf my upload is 200mbps less than my download wtf how can i keep 1:1 share ratio at that rate.
