The fewer ports open the better. Bittorent only uses 2 ports. But we need more information to help you.

I'll assume your running windows but what firewall do you use and do you use a router? The more information you can provide the easier it is to help.

May as well just make a list and have him answer all the usual questions who what WHERE when etc . . , you may need to show him how to find what you need.

Do you know how to use netstat and nbtstat?

Yea, I've never really heard such panicky response like, OMG I have to many ports closed. That's kinda like saying shit I forgot to bend over for the soap.

You misunderstand, I don't mean "some" ports are closed. i mean everyone i try to use with torrents. i can't dowload anything through bitcomet, azeurus, bittornado or even limewire!!

Can't open any of em!

So why are you still complaining instead of answering questions . . . WHERE are you?

WHAT firewalls do you have? Do you have a router?

Fill in some blanks here already

Sorry to waste your time people.

I looked again and realised it was Zonealarm Pro doing the damage. Thick git!?!

Sorted it out now.

Thanks for being there so quickly to help.

Apologises again!!

Hi Everyone. I'm heart broken here. My Winmx stopping logging on. I uninstalledl it thinking I can go into winmx.com home site and do a reinstall..

My browser is saying it can't locate winmx.com. I have a old computer so Im not
really sure why would that happen. I have dowloaded to my surprise a beta verison
of which is not logging on either. It seems a number of sites make you think if
you register on their forum sites then you can dowload winmx but only to get another
site to registr on to another site.
I have use winmx for years and never had to sign up somewhere eles to dl winmx it.

Can anyone help me out here,

newbie to this site ... thank you, Summer

First off, dont hijack someone elses thread. Secondly winmx is dead. The network has been taking offline, so the operators wont get sued.

Bottom line winmx IS NO MORE!

I have a similar problem to the dude who started this thread... All my ports are closed, with the exception of ports #21, 23 and 80 (i found this using grc.com (https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2)) . I cant seem to find a cause...
I am running Win XP, with the windows firewall disabled and no other firewal installed (i had Mcafee virus scan but i have since uninstalled that). I do have a router but that is not the cause because the problem still exists after i connect my computer straight into the modem.
I seem to be able to do everything on my computer except download fast on Azureus or Bitcomet (i can only reach speeds of about 25kb/s MAX). Internet browsing, MSN, downloading emails, etc works fine.... but i cant find a way to open the ports up..

If anyone has any suggestions, it would be much appreciated.

You count your lucky stars that your ports are closed, and get that port 21 and 23 closed too!!

Youre nuts not running a firewall, and using a router.

Having emphasiszed that, you need to read the last 100 posts in the BT thread. Just do it!

When you do, you will see me see things like 4226 error, port forwarding, number of CONNECTED seeders etc etc . . . go do your homework. There are plenty of BT Guides for you to read, and we have some stickyd JUST for you. So before someone like FuckDRM starts another 50 posts insisting he can solve your problem while you sit back and sip sissy drinks, try to do a little research on your own.

And try BitSpirit

First, you need to some questions.

1. Who's your ISP?
2. Does your ISP offer firewall protection for you?
3. What is the brand & model of your modem/router?

hamwedges

1. ISP= TPG Internet (Australia) @ 1500kbsD/256kbsU
2. No, they dont do any of that... i checked
3. Modem = D Link DSL-302G Router = D Link DI-704P. It is not the router however that is causing the problem because when i connect my computer directly to the modem i get the same problem and the same readout form the port scanning site.

Sorry, sounds like your ISP is blocking your p2p activities. Have you tried Newsgroups, IRC? If not, you should do a research on any other ISP Providers in your area!

Im 99% sure that they dont block my p2p activities because a friend of mine has the exact same plan with the same ISP and has no drams

OK, does your torrents download at slow speed or not at all?

hamwedges
November 1st, 2005, 04:09 PM
They download, just really slow..... I havnt seen it go over 20kbps.... However, the strange thing is that i can download at speeds >160kbps using LImewire!? :S
I also get those Tcpip warnings in the event viewer (event #4226) for Bitcomet, Edonkey and Azureus. IM not sure if its related at all.

Go do a search on Krell's post on error code #4226!

It is very much related, download and run the following patch.

http://www.lvllord.de/download.php?url=en/EvID4226Patch223d-en.zip

Set new limit to at least 100. Make sure windows doesnt restore original tcpip.sys

If you still get 4226, then set higher connection limit.

Thanks... ive been looking for one of thise patches...

So thats fixxed that, my port issue is still a problem.
I did another port test from that Shields Up! site andit says that port 21 is the only one open, all the rest r closed. This is weird because port 80 should be showing as open beacuse im browsing... :S

Ive fixed the problem, it turns out that the NAT feature in my Modem (D LInk DSL-302G) was enabled. When i disabled it Azureus and Bitcomet were happy. Yay
