hullo,
new here, and full of questions but i'll just start with two - just browsing briefly, it looks like some poeple are still using WinMX - i've been dipping in and out of it for months but its completely flooded with fake files that never connect or download, so how are people still using this?
and which is the best P2P to go for?
any advice greatly appreciated

Basically it's does only one thing well and that's if your looking for specific rare files that the RIAA would never bother to fake and from what I hear porn. Other then that the queue is horrendous, download speeds can sometimes be shockingly bad with no certainty that the file is real, fake or damaged.
I personally have little use for such a network. It takes way too much time to get anything accomplished and from what it appears development of the network has been abandoned.

Depends on what you're looking for. Music, movies ,games. There are many p2p apps to tailored to what the user want. I would go so far as to say that newsgroups, bittorrent and emule are really the only advantageous options open to you.

I whole heartedly agree with that statement. However for music Ares sometimes has its uses as well.

Call me an utter newbie if you will, but what is the difference with +/-64kbps, just the speed of download?
Also i heard Slsk is full of spyware and computer clogging crap, should i worry about this?
I'm really after one thats good for music, but also the odd film as well, and maybe a game, if i'm not being too adventurous...
cheers

The way to work winmx is to go to the chat rooms and browse some of the users there. You will find much to be had and all legit files to boot. Its good to make friends using winmx.

eee ummm ok kbps is the bitrate of the songs also in 90% of cases the quality, higher bitrate= better quality a minimum for most people is 192kbps theirs also vbr which is better still.
gnutella network sucks if you want good quality mp3s.
