Symantec, creator of the popular antivirus software Norton, purchased security firm Sygate earlier this week in a deal that will add to the software maker's already impressive line of acquisitions in the past year. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Previous to the Sygate acquisition, Symantec acquired TurnTide, Brightmail, On Technology and SafeWeb, as well as storage-software maker Veritas. Sygate makes software that ensures compliance with security regulations, as well as software to govern access to network devices.

Christ, it will be just like what happened to norton utilities. They will produce one or two editions that look more and more and like the competitors and then it will be all poop all the time. Fucking corporate amerika!
Too many businesses are in the business of buying and exploiting businesses, instead of whatever business each of the businesses they buy is supposed to be in. People whose main "work" experience is stock futures and similar ponzi schemes ought not be allowed to make executive decisions for real businesses that do actual real valuable stuff. It's fucked, I'd rather have management majors in charge even, yes their experience is sucking up and fucking off, but at least that's similar to work!

I just downloaded the latest free version to burn a new copy. By the time they get finished it will be so bloated, you will hear it pass gas just trying to start up.

i ditched norton earlier this year, and after having bad experience with AVG and Nod32, i am happy with my kaspersky
as far as firewall goes kerio 2.1.5 is 5w337
i used to like norton till about 2003, 2004 2005 & 2006 (beta) releases have been nothing but bloatware, m sure the new norton symantec firewall will have features like cookie cleaner, or umm mp3 player, lemme think now....ipod support anyone :icon_shak

Finally, maybe you stubborn sygate users will switch to something more decent.
Sort of like those atguard nuts. Good thing that firewall has been so broken its not even worth running anymore.

Definately would agree I liked Norton 2002 and 2003, but 2004 was a step in the wrong direction, and 2005 killed the spare 950Mhz laptop I had when I was testing it out, so I gave up on Norton at that point.. Having to wait an extra 20-30 sec on each boot really wasnt worth it...

When 512MB of RAM is not enough to run a "security suite", you know you're getting it in deep.
I've had AVG installed and running, mostly for peace of mind, for years. My firewall is a Microsoft MN-500 NAT Router. Never had any problems here.

anti virus software is for noobs, how hard is it NOT to double click on "horneysister.exe"
norton just plain sucks i have 2gigs of ram and id still never put that shit on my pc
1.it runs like 10 processes
2.eats ram like its going out of fashion
3.you can't close the damn thing if your wanting to game or somet
4.Its uninstaller is a fucking joke leaves so much shit behind you might as well not bother uninstalling it i nthe first place.
5.bloooaattttt!
6.oh and it runs so slow it would take less time for me to look at each file on my pc,google its name and see if its a virus on my own.
6 reasons why norton = teh n00bzsuzx00errrrrrrrr!11
