i wonder if anyone has had strange problems . xp has tried to update many times over the last 3 days, then yeserday all i got every time i turned the pc on was a bsod.
and yes i have all ways run antivirus and firewall fully updated. so then i tried to repair
no such luck at this point i figgered reinstall. so off i go down that path. the session would go well for awhile and then it would say such and such file is not a reconzied xp file. never had a problem in the past. tried 5 times each time it was a different file that gave problems. so i gave up, ran diskkiller and installed suse 9.1 with no problems what so ever. its not like i have never done things like that before and i can repair pretty much any problems i have run into before. but this was something i nor some of my friends have come across. so if any one might have something usefull (no smartass comments
okay) to say i would to hear your thoughts

Backup everything you can and format and reinstall thats my solution for everything

After seeing a format, that left shit behind, and messed things up causing a second format, I suggest doing a deep format making sure you are starting with a clean plate. I was trying to find the post that CPU told me what software to use, but no luck yet.

You can use DBAN to wipe your hard disk several times to make sure the hard disk is cleaned!

i do have back-ups of everything. but what we can not resolve is everytime i tried to install xp one file or another would be listed as a non genune windows file which i can not understand because i have used this cd for a long time with no problems.so the drug induced paranoria takes over. has microsoft found some way to tell if the install is run from a bona fide cd or not

You had an incomplete installation of updates, no conspiracies.
When you do a clean install, you delete the partition, which obliterates the MFT. You start over with an NTFS format.
What kind of condition id your XP cd in? May be time to burn a new one :D

If that is true, I have not read anything about it. And I am SURE it would be all over places like zeropaid if it were true. Because it would affect a LOT of people. Chances are that your hard drive may be corrupted, your xp disk is going bad or something else nobody has heard of because it rarely happens is going on. But I really doubt it is anything sinister by microsoft that is doing it! If it is, this is the very FIRST case I have ever heard of where they can detect a non legit cd on install.
