I have a lot of protected WMA's on my computer and I want to store them as mp3's so that I can listen to that music everywhere I want. What is the best converter I can use to get passed this DRM protection ?
I hope I'm in the right place to ask

How many songs you talking about? For me it would be easier just to trash those and download new copies. I don't know of a converter for those files.

You can find a ton of info if you google DRM and WMV. Also, try Muvaudio and Tunebite.

ive seen a dos based converter

it even stripped out the drm but no idea where to find it now

and i seem to remember it was a bastard to work (and only 1 song at a time)

if ya cant find a working drm removal tool, open the files in wmp and burn a cd. then ya can make normal mp3 rips. kills the audio quality, i hear audiophiles say, but most people woent notice the difference.

I posted a link a good while ago to a program that removes drm protection in wma's but I can't find it because my "see all auggies posts" only goes to 20 pages. I got reputation for it too but I can't see that either because rep stops and 20 too. Give me a few minutes and I will find it. As for mp3 conversion, dbpoweramp without a doubt. Google here! (http://www.google.ie/search?hl=en&q=dbpoweramp&meta=)

the easiest answer can be found on any windows computer, the icon looks like this

use this magic program, then download the file in a nonuseless format

I always wondered what that icon was for.

But seriously, dont transcode them to mp3, at least not if you intend to share them, they will sound like shit.

Exactly the best way to avoid it is not paying for DRM-infected files in the first place ;).

But if you do have some its very easily countered with Tunebite, muvaudio, dbamp etc.

Thanks a lot guys for all the infos. Unfortunately I downloaded a lot of songs from Napster, only to find out when I tried to make an mp3 CD for my car, that they are protected by this license, and we are talking about almost 500 songs :(
Anyway I tested a few of the converters you guys told me about. And the nicest one seems to be Tunebite (http://www.tunebite.com) .
Btw. from some reason dbpoweramp doesn't remove this protection, or is it just me ?

Nope it doesn't. This removes the protection.
