Until recently Shareaza has been good for dwnloads but for the past two weeks I have the following problems:
1.When I perform a Search the icon is there for the artist but if I shut down and restart the search has gone. Prior to this the search stayed and I could use it to redownload corrupted files.I understand that a constant search might tie up the Sever so am curious if this is the reasoning behind not getting the search to stay anymore. If not..solution,please.
2.Downloads aren't downloading, as before. I can leave the machine on overnight and nothing has happened.
3. Searches aren't being performed and nothing accumulates for the artist icons present.
I presume my settings are somehoe now incorrect as I made a mistake and allowed a Tech. to get his hands on my machine to virus clean it although, even with presumed virus Shareaza still worked. I would appreciate either good advice or being pointed in the right direction for me to follow up and self-correct the problem as Shareaza, to now, has been good. I use the 1.6 version but was encountering some problems toward the mentioned two week frame. I have reinstalled Shareaza but still get the no downloading.

We need more info. Are you using Windows XP? If you are, you need to disable firewall built-in with XP. Use something like ZoneAlarm instead. The tech guy may have change your settings, download ZoneAlarm from download.com then go into Control Panel then Network and Network Connections, then Local Area Connection then click on Properties, then click on Advanced tab to uncheck the box for restricting or preventing access to your computer. Also, don't forget to install ZoneAlarm so you will be protected online.

I use the Windows Millenium edition and no, I don't currently have a firewall. Prior to upgrading the Shareaza I got the VBS bug but everything was cleared out successfully. My searches were always retained and I found it convenient as there was always the odd new items turning up for Spike Jones,or whatever. I'vew been trying to download a couple of Command and Conquer and Age of Empire for some while now but, as I said, I am always wiped out whenever I shut he machine and I don't want to chance leaving it run for too many days without shutdown because of heat and wear on the drive, despite what some people advocate.
Is there a better downloader than Shareaza. I tried Limewire but have run into the same problems so I presume it's some setting that's been changed on my machine but altho I went into the control panel I didn't see anything too different to before. It's not my new LAN connection as I was getting some downloads before. I'll also check with my cptr.servicer to see if he can recall changing anything as he wiped out a lot of stuff to clean the VBS.
I'm rather kicking myself now since I discovered the AVG anti virus program mentioned by Shareaza as it cleared out one VBS file I knew that Norton(which he used) had missed. And, of course, like care mechanics who don't really know what the problem is they recommend a wipe(which I loathe) as it's the equivalent of a mechanic telling you that "It's the carburator". Meaning that they're mostly clueless.
