There was a certain CD that I looked for on many filesharing networks (not Newsgroups or IRC) for a long time but never could find. I finally decided to just get the a hard copy of the damn thing & so I paid for it before listening or anything. I am happy with this decision but have a nagging feeling about it not being available through bittorrent/edonkey/gnutella/etc. I have contemplated the result of releasing this CD to some extent, but wish for some feedback. I wouldn't want any credit for such a release like most other groups seek. What I am looking for is the likeliness of being caught & the punishment associated. Are there any good ways to go about anonymously distributing it? I'm not sure if that last question can be answered on the forum.

I guess it depends where you put it, but I wouldnt worry too much. I upload albums all the time on oink.me.uk I guess if you put it on TorrentSpy or Mininova or something there would be a small chance of getting caught because its public. I'd say you're pretty safe though as the RIAA is nailing large sharers and sharing say 10 songs on an album really isnt worth their time.

Just submit it to a bittorrent tracker, try mininova

If you upload it to me, i will distribute it on oink. Or if you make a image ISO of the disk or make it in flac... IT would spread better.. I could make it a 256kbs with the iso as well as flac and 192kbs.. People prefer different choices.

I'll do distro on some private trackers too.

Or public, if you use tor, you can do that :)

Usually what I do to distribute stuff is upload it to a site like www.rapidshare.de (http://www.rapidshare.de) and then post it on a warez message board. I've gotten several thousand downloads on some cds.

If you want to take the lowest risk approach and do what those involved in the distro groups / fxp boards / etc do... you can use a SOCKS proxy to make yourself anonymous!!!

You can then connect to your p2p network in passive mode (if it supports it)... with someone elses IP address.

(If you want stronger anonymity... look into socks-chains and try to aim for proxies in countries where the RIAA are likely to have a hard time... china, korea, etc.)

---

Of course... for the sake of one album... ya might as well just sling it on one or two members-only torrent trackers (as others suggested) and just bail out when there's enough seeds to keep it going.

Mind PMing me some links to those boards?

for... you know, research purposes.

You could just use a proxy and upload to a place like this. Then post on warez boards like phalkon30 said. I've seen 25,000 downloads of a movie, and from there it can spread to the other forms of distribution.
