Motherboard makers have confirmed that Nvidia will launch the GeForce 7800 GT later this week.

Separately, it has emerged that Dell will offer systems based on the Nvidia's SLi technology.

Dell today said its upcoming XPS 600 gaming PC will be based on Nvidia's nForce 4 SLi chipset and Intel dual-core processor technology. The system will ship with a pair of 256MB GeForce 7800 GTX graphics cards and up to 8GB of 667MHz DDR 2 SDRAM. The system will be shown at QuakeCon.

Prices start at $3,009 for an XPS 600 with a single-core Pentium 6xx CPU. The unit will ship with Windows XP Home, Pro or Pro 64-bit edition. Dell said the systems would be available in the "coming weeks" in the Americas and EMEA.

This week's 7800 GT debut was revealed almost a month ago by an unnamed Nvidia employee. The chip is expected to be launched to co-incide with the Nvidia co-sponsored QuakeCon event, with boards based on the part set to retail for around $450.

Both the launch timing and the pricing were confirmed today by sources from Taiwan's motherboard community cited by DigiTimes.

Said sources also claimed Nvidia will this week cu GeForce 6800 series prices, to $199-399. ®
