Good deal man, thanks. As far as the poll, I go with AMD but mostly because I just built a new system around the AMD 64 3000+. Its rated kick ass! The only thing I wish I had done different is the hard drive, its just too big and not quite as fast as my old one.

AMD is indeed :icon_king also with their Dual Core AMD Athon 64 X2's: Game over for Intel (http://extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1843630,00.asp)

I have a seagate 80gig with 8meg cache but now my new system has a 160 seagate with 8me cache. It seems to me the seek time of the 80gig version was slightly faster but it could be the modded XP version I have installed on it. It had wway too many extra programs that came with it that maybe I should not have installed.

I'll stick with intel w/hyperthreading 2x 3.4 petium = 6.8.
If i chose to go 64. ill go with amd, due to intel dmr.

I believe athlon 64 has its own version of hyperthreading called hypertransport.

No, hypertransport is a dedicated high speed interconnect.

And that's not how Hyperthreading works. It's more like this:
3.4 / 2 = 2 * 1.7
I use AMD because of the lower power consumption and the better performance/price ratio. The Pentium M chip is the only offering from Intel at this point that interests me.

I say Intel because I have always used them and my sister's BF can get me any Intel processor for free.

Ive been using amd for a few years now I find them great. They always seemed more stable to be then intels chips. ALthough that could just be my system. Either way currently im running a amd 64 3000+ 939 pin model. It runs great no problems whatsoever. Low heat, low energy consumption. Its just a overall great chip.

AMD arguably has the faster gaming performance, even at 1ghz slower than the Pentium 4. Intel is a marketing machine, one where the marketing has surpassed the actual technology. They keep inventing things like BTX (to deal with the prescotts heat consumption) and dual core (because heat keeps them from making the pentium 4 any faster).
Also, hyperthreading is not the same as having 2 cpu's, you won't get "double the peroformance". Even with 2 separate cpu's (or dual core), you still won't get double the performance. You'll get 2 threads running 2 separate programs. So unless your program is designed to use 2 cpus, you won't see a difference (and most programs do NOT take advantage of this).
the great one

It doesn't matter to me,I have both.I buy the fastest CPU for the amount of money I'm looking to spend.
Edit:I gave Intel a vote because it was lagging behind.

That Intel is lagging behind has a reason and it is not a reason to vote for them.
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is just much better, as you can see.
