Firefly repeats are being run on the Sci-Fi channel at 6 PM CST Fridays. I personally thought the series deserved to be cancelled. I do not understand the integration of the Western aspect into the show. If that had been left out, it probably would have survived. There are much better ways to show lawlessness.

I enjoyed Firefly a lot. I got the DVDs from Netflix.
The theme of a space western with a weird smart girl seems to be derivative of Cowboy Bebop though.

I saw 2 shows back to back on Saturday night on SciFi....
The movie Serenity looks ok...but Firefly, space cowboys with all these spaceships & they use old 1800's style Pistols. If you at the show as a joke...you might like it better.
What was that other show..with the dead guy & sex starved chick & the robot head...that shit was funny & way better than Firefly was.

Fireflay Was A Good Show It Just Wasnt Given A Chance To Really Develope And The Movie Looks Pretty Good. I Think You Guys Take This To Serious, Why Not Just Watch The Movie Or Show And Just Enjoy It For What It Is, An Escape From Reality And Entertainment.

Firefly was way, way cool. But I'm afraid the plot may have been a little too challenging for your average StarTrek viewer. Firefly was - for once - a scifi show that left out all the pseudo-scientific crap and focussed on the development of the main characters. Plus, it sometimes had this slightly amateurish feel that I already loved about Farscape (which didn't have nearly such a good plot but made up for it by having those insane puppets and a lot more jokes about body fluids).

I Have To Agree, I Loved Farscape. Too Many Good Shows Are Canceled And Replaced With Crap, I Am Not Refering To The Sci-fi Channel Though, Upn And Fox Are Huge For Doing That.

There are very few movies that I will spend $20 on tickets to go see in a crowded movie theater with a $7.00 popcorn and 6.00 soda, as "borrowing" a "copy" from friends (you know who you are) is just so much faster, easier and more cost effective. But, I'll not only pay $20 to see Serenity the day it comes out, I'll be happy to hand the money in person to the heads of the MPAA, Universal, and anyone else involved in continuing the saga of the crew of Firefly.
September 30th seems so far away.

Mine too. It would be sweet if we could go together, then we could share some broccoli accented mini potato soup afterwards. Unfortunately, I'm on the east coast in Mass and you're in Minnesota Tater, so I don't think it would work.
My girlfriend threatens castration every time I put on one of my sets of Farscape, Firefly, Sliders, or Babylon 5. It would be nice to chill with someone who shares my affection for cancelled Sci-fi series for a change.

Sounds good to me. Let me know when you're going to see it and we can synchronize, though we'll have to take the time zone difference into account.
BTW: Screw the ex, you deserve better. Get together with that army guy you were talking about in another thread and watch some cancelled sci-fi together. You'll never know what could have been if you let a good thing pass you by with out even trying. Oh, and sorry for the delayed response, I was at hedo II for vaca.

By the time Lykka ate japan, I was beside myself. The last episode was a really good ending to a series. I admit it was time for it to go, but came to a good ending, better than Farscape did.

Funny you should mention this show. I started watching the show when it first aired. I don't know if I stopped b/c I got bored or because they cancelled it. As a gift for X-mas, I got the entire series on DVD. I have been enjoying it immensely thus far. I don't know why I had stopped before. I am more than halfway through it. I went and got the movie (with X-mas money) knowing I would enjoy it as I am enjoying the shows. Mal(colm) has some great humor. I just finished the one called "out of Gas" where everyone, namely Mal, nearly dies. I wonder if that show can be brought back from the dead?

I remember seeing the promos for Firefly on FOX. The thing that turned me off without ever seeing it was the loud exclamation, "From the creator of Buffy and Angel !"
No thanks...
... having heard the rumblings of the fans, and of the minor fart called "Serenity", I thought there might be something there. Canceled sci-fi shows rarely get a second chance as theatrical releases.
I saw DVD rips of the episodes and extras on usenet, in iPod format... so I figured what the hell. So far I've only watched the first two episodes and a "behind the scenes" featurette explaining the trials and tribulations of the series. It seems okay... gonna watch another one tonight. ... have Serenity on DVD around here somewhere too... amongst the warehouse of discs (think last shot of Raiders of the Lost Ark)
The same thing happened to me in relation to Farscape. For its entire run I couldn't have cared less about it. Then one day I downloaded every episode and went on a Scape'thon.

From Sci-Fi.com:
Whedon: No More Firefly
Firefly/Serenity creator Joss Whedon told USA Today that he still hopes to tell more stories set in the futuristic universe, but added that there's no chance he'll do another Firefly TV show. "We'll never make Firefly again, because that was a thing that existed and is now gone," Whedon told the newspaper before Christmas. "And Serenity isn't Firefly, and whatever comes next won't be, either. But I would love to tell more stories of this universe and to hang out with these people on and off for the rest of my career."
Serenity, based on the canceled Fox TV show Firefly, hit theaters last September and has pulled in a disappointing $25.4 million domestically since opening Sept. 30, 2005. The movie is now available on DVD. "The best-case scenario is that the DVD is such a spectacular, monster hit that we get to make another movie," Whedon said. "Then we get to make another movie. After three movies, we're all very tired. After Serenity: Revolutions, we feel like we've played it out. And then we make another series."
Whedon is currently writing the script for Wonder Woman, which he is slated to direct once Warner Brothers signs off.

From Sci-Fi.com:
Serenity Might Fly Again?
Loni Peristere, visual-effects supervisor for the SF movie Serenity, told SCI FI Wire that there's hope for future flights of the cast and crew of the movie, which just came out on DVD. Director Joss Whedon—who also created the canceled Fox TV show Firefly, on which the movie is based—expected that the movie might draw the low numbers it did in its theatrical release, Peristere said in an interview. But he added that the movie's sales on DVD, which came out on Dec. 20, are running neck-and-neck with the hit comedy Wedding Crashers, which bodes well for a possible Serenity sequel.
"We kind of expected this from our audience," Peristere said. "We did so well on [Amazon.com] with the Firefly box set and the performance of that helped us get the movie made. We wish the audience would get up and go to the theater, but it shows that they like to keep coming back and revisiting the world Joss created." Serenity made $25 million at the domestic box office after it was released Sept. 30.
Whedon and his crew are waiting to see how well the DVD numbers go before proceeding with a Serenity sequel, Peristere said. "We really hope to return to this work," he said. "We love the characters. It's fun storytelling, and we all love using our talents. ... It all depends on Joss. He's not giving up on the characters. He had incredible writers who had a million stories to tell, and we're all just hanging out and seeing what the world has to give us, and given the opportunity we'll make more."
In the meantime, fans of both show and movie can enjoy the DVD's various extras, which include an easter egg: a featurette about the making of the Fruity Oaty Bar commercial that appears in the film. "In the main menu, if you play around with the buttons you'll find a featurette of the Fruity Oaty Bar," Peristere revealed. (From the main menu highlight "play," then press left, which will highlight a marker on the right side of the menu; press enter to see the featurette.) "It's all a lot of fun," he said.
