If ur just looking for updates (like me), this is an easy one

u need sp2 installed
Do this in IE:

Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs -> click Manage Add-ons
Find the Windows Genuine Advantage add-on in the menu and then click Disable in the Settings box.
Now go back to the Windows Update page and everything will be back to normal. :icon_tong

U can always also goto http://windowsupdate.62nds.com/

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

if ur looking to install windows products, then u need to follow the bypass as suggested by Debasis Mohanty
its all over the net

"To bypass WGA validation check, one can run "GenuineCheck.exe" file on a machine running a copy of an authentic Windows XP for generating a key code. This key code generated on the machine running genuine copy of Win XP can be used to circumvent the WGA check on the machine running a pirated copy of Win X"

i am sure we will soon have a keygen for the genuine code also

Mods: I dont think this thread is actually a warez discussion, as the tools used here are provided by microsoft themselves, :icon_salu

Microsoft "Genuine Advantage" cracked in 24h: window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all'
AV sez, "This week, Microsoft started requiring users to verifiy their serial number before using Windows Update. This effort to force users to either buy XP or tell them where you got the illegal copy is called 'Genuine Advantage.' It was cracked within 24 hours."

Before pressing 'Custom' or 'Express' buttons paste this text to the address bar and press enter:

javascript:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all')

It turns off the trigger for the key check.

Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage totally sucks. Even if you do have a genuine windows version, you have to download that crappy tool, then go to the validation site, then have them verify your copy of windows before it send you back where you started. That stupid enough , but I work at a help desk and have accessed the windows update site to update user computers that we support and even when you know the copy of windows is genuine, the site still often fails to validate the copy.

What is the point of this useless crap anyway. This just seems like yet another money grab by the greedy mandarins at Microsoft . Whats the problem, guys, you had to cut back on using the Jet for trips to the French Riviera this year because of rising fuel costs ? Tough shit, join the rest of us and quit trying to bleed us dry. :icon_pira

Good tip for disabling yet another worthless Microsoft tool .

its really easy to get around... just goto tools, internet options, programs, manage add-ons, and disable windows geniune advantage. voila....I'd done this long ago and have been getting my updates. Last night I decided it was time to check windows update again so I clicked custom and it checked my computer and said I'd have to install WGA. Well I already have it, disabled, and I thought WTF. I downloaded it and went to disable it and it would not let me... the options were greyed out. I did a system restore and everything is back to where it was but still windows update will not let me in without allowing them to install WGA.

Hmmm. time to find another work around.

why would you want IE7?

I don't really want it but it sure sucks less than IE6.It's fastest for a couple things I have to do.I'm tired of waiting for poorly designed webpages to render in other browsers ,so for those I suck it up and use IE. I used to use the IE view extension(which conviently opened IE6 so I never had to click on the vile blue e) in Firefox but I'm on a FF hiatus for awhile until I get Opera 9 down.
I would say Firefox is better than Opera.
So would have I a month ago.The Opera 9 beta seems to block popups OK and does a couple more things I was waiting on.I found Firefox 1.5 to be a buggy POS and so did a lot of people. Some people love it.I'm not writing FF off, but I'll be using 1.0* until I can see from the postings on mozillazine that they've addressed some of the problems.I don't even have any version of FF on my #1 PC(I do have Seamonkey).I figure if I did I'd just keep using it out of familiarity and not give Opera a real chance.I've been usingf FF since )0.6 or 7 when it was called phoenix or firebird or whatever it was.I hadn't used Opera since 6.0 and was pleasantly surprised at how awesome it has become.

Microsoft and their new spyware.

Sheesh.

This is what I did this morning to get around the new WGA.

Went to windows update and turned on automatic updates.

Selected a time and the notify but do not download or install updates option.

When notified, selected all BUT WGA tool.

Downloaded and installed the selected updates and chose option to not be notified of update for WGA again.

Viola!

Everything updated and no new WGA crap.

What will MS come up with next month?

They seem to be updating this wee bugger every time it gets cracked but I have a fairly simple workaround that works for now.

Simply copy the most recent hacked version you can find of legitcheckcontrol into windows\system32 as legitcheckcontrol2.dll

The in regedit search for legitcheckcontrol and change the appropriate key so it points to legitcheckcontrol2.dll not legitcheckcontrol.dll.

Simple.

Just check in regedit before you update to make sure it hasnt changed back somehow.

Also if you installed the wga nag tool(tm) just :
1. Go into windows\system32 and Turn off simple file sharing (under folder options, view and right at the bottom use simple file sharing)
2. Open properties of wgalogon.dll and wgatray.exe
3 Go to security tab
4. Hit the advanced button
5 Click on system then hit edit
6 Then set Traverse Folder/ Execute file tick deny.

Viola no more wga nag tool(tm).

I'd recommend a newbie type linux distribution...something easy to learn like Linspire.
If you are really Windows savy..I'd say go with Xandros.
I use Xandros 3.0, and I rest so much easier not having to worry about viruses and spyware in my computer.
The beautiful thing about Linux, is that most of its programs are FREEWARE....yu don't pay a cent.
Just learn how to install, is about your main learning curve.
The ONE thing I need M$ for right now...is Linux's major weakness is playing Windows games.
They have a emulator called Cedega which is a commercialized version of the WINE project....and it plays a LOT of Windows games. Still some are not supported.
I'd say its about 65% reliable only due to the number of games it does not support.
It DOES support hot popular new games that come out....
I have played Doom3, Diablo 1 & 2, the Sims 2 etc etc.
I cannot play any of my old Star Trek Starfleet Command or Mechwarrior 1,2,3,or 4 games.
Command & Conquer series is pretty much a bust too.
Still this service is only $5 a month..and it is getting better. And with the majority of Linux distros being free....there has never been a better time to get free of Micro$loth.

I just don't get my updates from Windows update site anymore. I get them here.

http://windizupdate.com/

No WGA.

There must be a problem with that solution though. I don't see many people recommending it. If so, what is the problem with avoiding the Windows update site, and finding an alternative?

got this one at RFUZ.com

these are instructions on how to crack the latest version of Windows XP with Service Pack 2 that uses the registration key: .
**** IT WILL WORK WITH OTHER VERSIONS OF WINDOWS XP but not all! ****

This will allow you to bypass the Microsoft Genuine Validation thingy

this method works better than many others i've tried before. forget the cracks and injectors etc... this is the BEST WAY:

1) start > run > "regedit" (without the quotes of course)

2) go to the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WPAEvents\OOBETimer

...and doubleclick on it. Then change some of the value data to ANYTHING ELSE...delete some, add some letters, I don't care...just change it!

now close out regedit.

3) go to start > run > "%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a" (again, dont type the quotes)

4) the activation screen will come up, click on register over telephone, then click on CHANGE PRODUCT KEY, enter in this key:

Now you can dl all the updates without activating, and the Genuine Microsoft Validation thingy won't bug you no more!!

***Notes, this works best after a reformmat***

"I appreciate your only trying to help but hosting private property of M.S like CD keys can get you and us into hot water so I have edited this info. FYI with enough research you can pretty much crack validation up to vista and its easy with minimal effort to find "~Moneoa"

1. Forum rules- no installation codes

2. A Student copy of XP requires no activation/no regedit

All that fuss for just removing WGA on win XP????

I wonder how hard VISTA is to take off validation on it??

I do not know as I have a legal copy of win xp pro and will refuse to use Vista until a "lite" version is created.

if any1 needs information on how to have your vista be fully activated and genuine and get all updates, please pm me and ill help you!im not sure of all the rules in the forums so im hesitant to tell you the steps and then suddenly get banned from forums. Also, with these reps points,is this like highschool still, with cliques having the power over your reputation.if i answer your pm and and show you the way,i expect my rep to go up.the 1st person who screws me will ruin it for the others as i will not share anymore info.anyways, pm me and ill teach you,so ev1 can enjoy bill gates not getting as much money :) btw my method works for both 32 and 64 bit systems.
