A while back I had a problem with my CDrom, and had it replaced under warrenty. The new one will not automatically read from a cd, but rather I have to go to my computer, cd rom, and click on it to view what is there.

Sounds like autorun has been disabled somehow. If you've installed Alcohol 120% or (not sure about this one) DAEMON tools, they could have done it.

Which version of Windows?

Im using XPpro, and havnt installed either of those programs, but it seems to have developed after I installed Acronis disk director suite. As I recall, I got something like an MB3 error when booting. I would have to reboot to see the exact error message.

See if this helps the autorun issue:

Thanks, I downloaded the patch, and will give it a try in a bit. The error is "MBR Error3"

That's probably something to do with the "Acronis OS Selector." If you only use one operating system on your computer, you can use the recovery console (http://www.wown.com/j_helmig/wxprcons.htm) to restore the normal Windows MBR. (The command you will need to run in the recovery console is fixmbr)

I wonder if I could just put the disk in, go to My computer>cdrom>and do a full install over the top, as Im more used to doing this with 98. Hell I only have to mess with xp about once a year.

I just had an idea, I have an old hardrive with a few bad sectors on it, but still bootable. If the wife is feeling better tomorrow so I can have some free time, Im going to put it back in, and see if the cdrom works properly then. This frigging drive needs to be wiped anyway, as I have a sneaky suspicion that there is still part of an old OS on here. I got it from a friend, and it does not appear to have been fully wiped before I got it. Aida32 tells me there are 2 operating systems on it, one that it doesnt recognize.
