I am currently trying to download a program off of winmx and I am queued in 10 different users and the lowest number is 46. with most of the queues being over 100. why do people on this network insist on keeping people in queues? I am lucky enough to have a cable connection and can leave it on 24/7, but if I couldn't i wouldn't be able to download anything off here. you can find a lot of stuff on this network but you will have to wait 2 days to get it. I am not a leecher I have almost 700 shared files(and would have more if I had a bigger hard drive). I will alow people to upload from me as long as they too are sharing. What is so hard about that. Now I understand the bandwith issue but come on people.

youve become one of the millions of victims of....

winmx's poor design and a$$holes for users. atleast thats my opinion. ive never had any luck with winmx, so thats why im so bitter twards it. maybe somoine else has a better explination.

i dont think its a problem with winmx, it seems to be the people using it.
when ever i download files i alway bump into the same people providing files, this suggests to me that winmx has a bit of a supply and demand problem. too many people r not sharing their files so there r not enough to go round.
thats what i think anyway.:angel

Well, I don't think either this is a problem with WinMX. The a$$hole users, though... :mellow

Seriously, the source of the problem is one only: too many people want files and too few share. Solution ? Once you've gotten the file, share it ! Sure, it will not solve YOUR original problem, but the next user who wants it will have a slightly better time. If we got all users to do that, instead of leeching or trading only, the network would sure be in a better state.

Another alternative would be allocating bandwidth to the users proportional to the amount of files they share, as in many other filesharing utilities around. I personally do not like this though, for a series of reasons.

All in all, I like WinMX design, and I have up to today managed to get all the files I wanted, no matter how many in the queue, just by leaving the computer on overnight...

I agree winmx has become more of pain with new version, but you get still get stuff you want by constantly searching for alternates while you are downloading and keep piling more users on your current multi point download.

i just think its the users alot of users trade only on winmx which i don't like but i still perfer winmx over most p2p apps i know in alot of the chats on winmx there are users in there that come just to trade or spread files within the chat that they are a regular in so it may be that all the people that have the file that you want belong to a chat like that and are busy spreading other files to there friends instead of any random user

if someone bugs you for a trade, trade with them but then share the file if you can, to make life easier for everyone else.

Slyck Interview - Inform thyself (http://www.slyck.com/newssep2002/091402b.html)

Slyck.com: Long queues seem to be a concern to some individuals. What is their primary cause, and what, if anything, can be done to ease this situation?

WinMX: The primary cause of these longer queues compared to v3.22 is the unanticipated number of users that jack the new "Auto Enter Queue" up all the way and leave it there. However, many times you will move down through large queues quicker than would be expected, mostly due to other users leaving the queue, etc...

We are launching a three pronged attack on this situation:

1> Upcoming versions will have major improvements to the way files are shared and uploads are managed. These changes will mean more files are on the network, as well as more available upload slots.

2> More and more users are behind the default Win XP firewall, which means files shared by non-firewalled users are in heavier demand than normal, causing somewhat longer queues especially on big files. We have placed a high priority on solving this emerging firewall problem and I'm confident future versions will have a solution.

3> We are currently researching and developing groundbreaking new network algorithms which will greatly increase network efficiency, and will result in much better overall utilization of upload slots relative to geographic location, further speeding file transfers.

well this is just an informative update. I have been trying to dowload this file now and I have had it downloading now for 26 hours and I am 32% finished. after about 10 hours I finanlly started moving up in the ques and started downloading from several people and then the cable modem went out and I lost my connection and had to start all over again at the bottom of the list. I have just now moved up into the single digits with two users.

I love using winmx and i know the long queues are do to the gay ppl who dont share! Obviously the point of FILE SHARING is to SHARE! I dont know why these a##holes dont share i mean if everybody shared we would have an awesome network but until we get some kind of leecher killer for winmx than forget about it they just wont stop! well anyway ive used winmx for a long time and i think they should make something so in order to use the program or download from others u have to share?:devil
