What I like most about the Internet is that it conforms to a least common denominator of the legal system. Lets say some country in Asia is communist and they don't have intellectual property laws.(Or for that matter what about networks, like tor.eff.org ,freenet.sf.net, and I2P.net) You can host some warez site, or BitTorrent tracker and you can access it from anywhere on the web.
There is a problem, the US controls key parts of the Internet like the Domain Name system. The US can redirect Internet traffic as they see fit. The US went so far as privatizing a world resource, but they can still step in whenever they choose. They gave all .net and .com control to VeriSign, creating a monopoly! (Privatization is monopolistic) Its clear that the US is abusing a world resource.
This shows that the US cannot have control over how Internet is controlled. The US is too radical and dogmatic. Its clear that the US supports monopolies and the punishment of people enjoying the freedom of information. Don't get me wrong the US isn't the worst, there is China, but the US is pretty bad.
I believe in Democracy (I don't believe in a republic...) There needs to be a world force to control parts of the Internet. The world should have a say in how it is run. It shouldn't have to conform to the crazy laws of one small radical country(the US is not even 1/10th of the worlds population). I enjoy having the freedom of a least common denominator of the legal system. You can't have a greatest common denominator, it just wouldn't function (look at china).
Peace
