Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000307050758/) has picked up on some information from Xbox365.com that Microsoft is planning to launch the Xbox 360 on November 4th. How Xbox365.com (http://www.xbox365.com/news.cgi?id=GGuGPrLGrr07140635) obtained this info is not clear, but a November launch heading into the holiday shopping season would make sense. The hype has picked up already with an on-line countdown at Launch360.org (http://www.launch360.org/).

It’s not entirely clear where they scored this info, but Xbox365.com is reporting that Microsoft is going to launch the Xbox 360 on November 4th. Certainly plausible, since we all know that Microsoft wants to spit this thing out in time to hit the holiday shopping period hard, but November 4th just happens to fall on a Friday this year, and from what we’ve seen most marketers are really reluctant to launch a major new product on a Friday.

This console will give Sony a lot more competition but I don't know about taking number one spot. I know I'm going to preorder the xbox as soon as I can.

The real good games probably won't come out until next year when the other consoles join in. Then you have the issue of developers actually using the full potential of the system...right now most of the launch games are modified ports...

You are probably going to see very little "budget" titles out for the next gen consoles, and more developers going bankrupt; we are already seeing that now...

The new console might include HD-DVD

It didn’t take long for the first effects of the partnership between Microsoft and Toshiba announced yesterday to appear.

According to the statements made by Bill Gates in Japan, Xbox 360, the new gaming console may include HD-DVD drives.

Considering that such a decision would postpone the launching date, Microsoft will equip the initial models with classic DVD drives, and only after the new HD-DVD are ready, the Xbox will incorporate them.

I agree,

The first games also tend "eye candy games" meaning they show off what system is capable graphics wise and spend little time making it actually fun to play. The same holds true for Sony as well. The second generation of games are always much better.
