Ok I just installed the latest Firefox, and am not impressed. I cant get adblock, or RIP to work. So if anyone has a link to ones that will work in the latest version I would really appreciate it.

did you try editing the extensions.lastAppVersion value under about:config?

Change the value to 1.0 or 0.10 if it already isn't...

The Hunter
July 14th, 2005, 04:08 PM
Nope, hell I dont even know where to find it, as I never had to do that before.

just type "about:config" in the address box, then using the 'filter' box at the op of that page, enter or C&P that string name and it should appear.

Then just double click on the string and a value box should pop up and just change the value ;)

Try the 1.0 value first, then 0.10 if nesscessary. Restart Firefox to see if it works...

www.maxthon.com the fastest, and best functionality. Up until Firefox is the fastest, I won't waste my time.

MPXX

Maxthon is okay, if you like using the IE core...but most Firefox users don't...that's mainly why they use it in the first place ;)

The Hunter

I changed it, but still no joy, as after reinstalling adblock it still wont work.

The Hunter

The unfortunate thing is that a user should not have to dick around with it to get it to frigging work. It will never get a large user base if it does not have speed, and is user friendly. Most people just want to install it and have it work. Some nights I dont mind frigging around with settings, at other times I just want what I have installed to work.

Yeah i understand about the issue of the IE core, yet contradcitory to it all, the only thing it annoys people with the IE core is it let's more Spyware in than Firefox, quite alot more as I've read. But running a good solid firewall eliminates Spyware and Adware getting through once activating the Firewall.

Sounds like a lot of work, Hunter.

Doesn't sound worth it to me. I think FF may go into the Recycle Bin the next time I do some cleaning.

The Hunter
July 14th, 2005, 05:22 PM
Actually I dumped it, cleaned everything I could find, rebooted, reinstalled, and still no adblock. Kinda makes one wonder how they ever expect to become a mainstream browser if the average person cant get it to work.

That's wierd. I've updated to 1.0.5 and have no problems with any of my extensions, including adblock and RIP.

I've got RIP ver. 1.0.4 (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&category=Web%20Annoyances&numpg=10&id=521)
Adblock ver. 0.5.2.039 here (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=10&application=firefox) or here (http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=774)

Thats what i thought, as I never had a problem before.

The Hunter

This may give someone a clue to the problem.

setting that boolean to "true" (double clicking it), does Adblock load??
On the extention site, Adblock is labled as incompatable w/ 1.0.5 atm...

The Hunter
July 16th, 2005, 03:08 PM
Sorry it took so long for me to reply to this, but I changed the setting, and no change.

MPXX
July 16th, 2005, 06:10 PM
even with a restart eh...

I just upgraded to 1.0.5 w/ no loss on any of my extentions, including Adblock...although my extensions.lastAppVersion value was 0.10 when upgrading from 1.0.4, don't know if that effected the installation.

Have you tried creating another profile?
Goto Start>>Run... type in "firefox.exe -profilemanager"
Create a second profile other than your default, and then you can try and reinstall the extentions into the new profile (you may want to change the extensions.lastAppVersion if an extention like adblock won't install) If it does work in the new testing profile, you can later import your bookmarks and other stuff from the other profile.

Thanks, and I will give that a shot tomorrow, as its too frigging hot in here right now.

MPXX

LOL, ya that damn humidity...actually Hunter, you may want to wait a couple of days till 1.0.6 comes out...and it could be the cause of your incompatability...and the lack of 1.0.5 being on mozilla auto-update

Asa Dotzler, a Mozilla staff member has said:

We've run into an issue where an API change was introduced into the 1.0.5 builds
which is going to require that we replace 1.0.5 with a new release. Please hold
off on doing any further localizations until we have the new release ready to
go. If all goes well, this should be on Monday.

I upgraded to Firefox 1.0.5 yesterday, I just installed it over the top of 1.0.4 and all of my extentions work including adblock and all my themes. But when I try to play a game online that uses Java, Firefox just locks up and I have to restart it. I have the latest version of Java with all of the updates, I don't know why it won't work with Java now. I have been using Internet Explorer to play my online games now. I also have Java and Java script enabled. Anybody have any cludes to why it just stopped working after I upgraded? I already tried to uninstall and reinstall even deleted all of the folders for Firefox then reinstalled still Java won't work. It also appears to run slower than version 1.0.4.

ThankYou. :drunken_s

I do emphisise still how they should get there arse into gear and sort out the speed of their browser.

MPXX
July 16th, 2005, 09:35 PM
Pipelining and direct drawing solves that speed problem, again about:config

Yeah, but on the contrary... having to ''configure'' just to get potential/maximum speed, should be set to default.

MPXX
July 16th, 2005, 10:16 PM
ya but it's "experimental" ;) and does require a some more processing speed...it's default is "off" so if Fx is put on a slower computer, it would be able to handle the page load.

No problems with adblock

The Hunter
July 19th, 2005, 05:26 PM
Ok, that version appears to have many problems, including many extensions not working, and a bad memory leak. I have no feedback yet on how the latest version is proving out, but here is a link to the new version, in their forums.

Im going to wait and see how far up the ram usage goes before I try it, as Im getting more than a bit gun shy.

Ok, I upgraded to 1.0.6 and the Java problem is solved. I can play my online games again. But now another problem, Firefox has crashed 3 times while I was playing my online games which is becomming very annonying. Firefox has even crashed while I was checking my email. Untill these problems can be fixed I won't use Firefox. I downloaded Maxthon Browser and it is working great, it has tab browsing and adblock on it and alot of the same features as Firefox has. Even faster than Internet Explorer and Firefox. I might just have myself a new browser.

ThankYou. :icon_tong
