is this a PA mic?
If it is there's only a number of models Guitar tracks supports. The mic has to be Windows compatible.

well, i dont know if my mic is windows compatible but it's a condenser mic and im running it through a pre-amp. everything works fine when i use the software that the sound card came with, i just dont really like that software. with guitar tracks i cant figure out how to get any signal to record with..or even to just get the levels right.

Are you sure the microphone volume isn't muted in control panel > sound and audio devices > advanced > recording? Had a similar problem with my microphone before, not really a problem though lol!

yes..i am sure that is not the problem. i can get sound and record with my other software, just no guitar tracks..which makes me think that im missing some crucial but simple step

Ok then it's definately the program, check google and see if there are any compatability issues with some hardware and see if there is some available fixes or guides. And go over all the settings in the program very slowly just so you know you didn't miss anything.

I use cakewalk sonar with an edirol ua-25 audio interface. I am going to take a guess that your settings within cakewalk need to be set for your audio interface, which in your case, is simply your sound card. Look under all of the options/preferences for input/output and set them up for your sound card. You could also try cakewalks help forums.

you just have to play with all the programs main settings to see where the problem is at...
anyway i don't thing guitar tracks pro is such a good software, so i wouldn't put too much effort into it.
your'e better off trying different software first.
