Some ISPs like Comcast, will sell you to MPAA.....I got 2 of them notifications from Comcast a year ago....I dumped their ass right way.

To anyone using any typ of file sharing software.....get familiar with Peer Guardian (now in version 2.0) Blocks ANY unauthorized idiots from sniffing whats on your hard drive. I've seen some STRANGE STRANGE folks try to query my computer. Shanghai University (China) and some police dept in Nova Scotia!
I have Time Warner Cable (Waner Bros) and they have never even sniffed in my direction. I use PG WHENEVER I am downloading with Kazaa Lite or Bittorrent. Better safe than sorry. RIAA and MPAA go to hell!!! hee hee hee hee

Quit using 6881 as default ports.. there using that to check data going in, and also slowing down speeds.. go over 30000 and to 30060. have various open. I have downloaded over a 120 movies, some still out in theaters, 50 xbox titles, 6 different software that is heavily copywrited.. And never got a warning, other then YEARS ago using xolox in which i got introuble with MPAA with a cease and desist letter. I dont use peerguardian either. Few months ago i used newsgroups, but other then that close torrent sites.

Umm maybe you should stop downloading ANYTHING that says Mac OS X Tiger. Seems to me this might be one being watched heavily.

Also Peer Guardian is fine for the known addresses. There are many that PG doesn't detect because they haven't been identified yet.

Why did you find it strange?

Even BitTorrent creator Bram Cohen has warned in the past that using his technology to distribute material illegally is a "dumb idea," because the file-swapping tool is not designed to hide the identity of anyone using it.

he thought that because the rar file was just garbage text (until unrared) then it was undetectable. there are no advanced filters setup that check for certain bits of binary... just filenames and crap.

if the bullshit alliance sends another email then do what i do, send fake bsa emails about yourself and see if they act on them. if they do say "HA! those were all from me, i was just testing you.never actually downloaded anything, whores. see what you'd do to your own customers, send them empty threats :icon_thum "

your safer in the since that only one Ip address can enter or register and that once they fill up that the doors will close. Would you join torrentbytes.net or would you just keep using torrentspy.com??

@Shawners.....those two sites loki and elite......THEY STILL GOT SHUT DOWN BY THE FBI! So no, you are no "safer" using private sites than public sites. And God knows what they tried to glean from the logs. So if only one IP address can enter or register on that private site, it just makes it easier for the people in the FBI going over the logs...as there are not multiple IP addresses. I really don't understand your reasoning that private sites are more safe, they are absolutely not!

So it really does not matter one way or another if a BT site is private or public, they can be shut down regardless and you are no safer.

BT is not a secure protocol within itself and was never built to be. So you are really kidding yourself if you think you are safer on a private BT site than a public one.

LOKITORRENT was an OPEN SITE.
ELITETORRENTS PUT star wars REVENGE Of the sith on the HOMEPAGE, in which you didnt need to log into view it. They got themselfs in trouble. It gave any agency information for them to invade the site and get logs as well as shut it down. But no real p2p program is ever safe. But since i have downloaded more then 160 dvd's and while some were 2 months before hitting retail or still on the theaters. I never got one letter. Apple will try their hardest to work with BAYTSP and others in trying to stop people from owning x86 iso.. I dont use piratebay, but if you can use Apples operating system on a pc.. THeir computer market will crash. Lots of people will lose money, investors, stock market, apple sales. Because there is no purpose in buying a mac.
Why dont you ask the guy what website or tracker he was downloading from?

After I caught viruses several times from bittorrent downloads, I've opted to uninstall, and become straight. I feel better. I am not sure but I think that there is a universal spiritual law, called "bread of shame" that will cause you to be poor, sick, and miserable if you only take but never earned it.
Whether it is true or not, I am feeling better. And I now only occasionally get viruses through hidden iframes on that were hacked.

Just my 2 cents' worth

Your so called "universal spiritual law, called "bread of shame" or Kabbalah as it is better and correctly known as, is just anothe dogma religion meant to explain away the woes of the world.

Please take back your two cents worth. You paid to muck for that fairy tale religion.

So, what if one were to invest some time in to become familiar with IP masks, changers, and hiders? I have heard rumors that you can make your IP bounce from country to country making it almost impossible to track. I guess it wouldn't help you hide from your ISP seeing what your downloading through your ISP's service? I use PeerBlock, which is the same as Peerguardian, just seems a bit more stable. But there has to be a way to hide, might have to be a border line computer prodigy to figure it out, but i'm sure there is a technique to fool the scum suckers that are out to get us. If anyone knows that way please tell me xD

For bittorrent downloading check out Ipredator and similar tools.

Like what?

The innate requirement to max out your connection 24/7, 365 days a year. As if you have no life outside torrents. I'm fine with demanding a specific amount of traffic but at least state so in the rules. That way I know whether I will be ajudged to be contributing enough. If I know I cannot fulfill that role I will not bother. That's what I'm judging from my expulsion on one tracker though.

I've heard of other people's experiences in being dished out unfair punishment by members of staff on a power trip. It's a dangerous ploy to enact because the disaffected user could probably get their own back one way or another.

There's also the issue of some private trackers that may not be very good at keeping a good ratio, no matter how good you are with torrents, and the only way to keep up is to pay for upload credit - pay to leech. I've not had this problem but some private trackers do like plastering 'special offers', like double leech, every other fortnight like sofa sales.

Then there's the issue of cliques...

...the message goes on to say if i get caught again..then i get cut off from my ISP's services...
the funny thing is...it was RAW data...millions of textfiles that had bullshit text in them....

very strange....

Ghost the first thing i would do here is check and see if your ISP even sends out emails. I am suspect of this is even coming from your ISP.

Damn straight. First who is your provider? Next check the email address and find if it's real source. F*cking Google is your friend damn it. If the message came from someone other then your authentic ISP provider then F#ck it.

I agree that there's a certain amount of nagging to contribute cash to leech or become a VIP. I certainly don't think I am maxed out 24/7 bandwidth wise though. I am a bit careful about where I acquire files that are old or not popular thus no leechers and therefore a ratio killer. I seed my share but not much more beyond that. Most of the private trackers I'm on are pretty laid back in my opinion. My ratio's are all around 2-3 to 1. I have seen a few people come on here complaining about moderator abuse on some trackers. In my personal experience I have not had any issues in that regard but I'm certainly not saying it doesn't happen. Overall I would agree that there are certain pros and cons as there are with public trackers as well. In the end the pros outweigh the cons from my perspective.

I doubt that the OP is still concerned about this 5 1/2 years later. Just sayin'.......

True. Thing is, the part that I experienced, was that my ratio was just below one, within the permitted boundaries as stated by the rules, and I had always seeded files beyond the requirement (say 96 hours or 120 hours for a pack). Donate to the site to help them out and a ban comes my way because, presumably I haven't contributed enough traffic (due to university - have my own house). Some trackers do tell you in advance (TL do afaik). So now I've considered using file hosting sites and I'll probably end up uploading exclusive content to the tracker I am no longer part of. Tough on them as I can't check which ones are or not any more.

I've found this site www.hidemytorrent.com they have VPN access via Holland where it is legal to P2P. The service is good and the cheapest i've found on the net (0nly 2 quid..!)

quid? Is that like calamari? Is quid tasty? I find it odd that you can barter squid with the dutch, but I guess they'll eat anything.

My brother has had 8 letters from his ISP, and I have received 4 letters from my ISP. No biggie.
