View Full Version : A Nero 6 Question, If I May

I see mostly discussion of games here. However, Since the topic is 'general', I assume I can talk about programs as well. If not, Feel free to correct me.

Does anyone here use Nero 6 Ultra? I just bought it (not sure I should have) and while I can do 'basically' what I wanted to do with it, I'm finding it not very user friendly. Even the picutre viewer that comes with it disappoints. While you have handy, direct access to editing features, they are confusing to use. As well, There isn't even a delete button for images viewed, unlike the freebie windows picture viewer. (How do I reset my windows image viewer to be the default viewer when I click to open an image file? I didn't de-select it, actually. But since installing Nero 6, it got dumped in favor of Nero's clunky viewer.)

My main question, for now, is: How do I edit a movie clip (using my Canon PowerShot A57) with this 'full' featured suite? For the life of me, I don't see how to and the book which I regretfully bought that purports to explain the program doesn't say a thing about adjusting brightness and contrast in movie clips, not even in the section titled "Editing Digital Video Files." Even the freebie Arcsoft that comes with my Canon camera offers an (easy to locate) option to adjust the brightness and contrast of movie files. (My bias - which mostly remains - against Arcsoft caused me to not use this software or look closely at it, until 'after' I had poppped down a $100 for Nero. When I 'publish' - save to disk - an edited clip, Arcsoft adds a high-pitch whine to the clip, ruining it. That's twice that it's done that.) I thought that Nero's 'export' might be the equivalent of Arcsoft's 'publish', but, If it is, It's lacking the basic options such as brightness and contrast control. That's the only editing I really need, since I'm not good enough to know how to do more advanced editing than that.

After all these years, Nero should have gotten it's act together. I guess when you're commercially successful, you don't have to do the right thing.

I've also asked in P2P Zone, and received no replies yet. I've also emailed Nero about it, but who knows what kind of response I'll get from them.

Thanks in advance.

Nero has its advantages & disadvantages compare to more specialized program for a task like TMPGEnc video editing. However, for most users Nero is a program that most users will used most!

As to image file exension associated with a program, go to Windows Explorer's Tools menu then Folder Options then File Types to change it back to Windows Picture Viewer as the default program to use.

Thanks Digital Junkie. I should have known that.

Well, I'm hopeful someone here will be able to clue me in on the movie edit problem I talked about, since so many folks use the program!

Later...

Virtual Dub was the answer. Like it's creator said, It is simple and quick and dirty. But it does the one thing I needed it to do. It allows me to quickly and easily adjust the brightness and contrast of my movie clips.

You have a number is issues here

First of all, I dont know what you think Nero is, but it is first and formost a MEDIA BURNING software suite. It burns media and does the best damned job of it.

Nero Ultra (and btw yes we all use Nero Ultra) also comes with NeroVision Express 2, Nero Recode, Nero Showtime, Nero Wave Editor etc. This does not mean that it is suited for every application or file type.

I never have a problem with Nero, and Ive always been able to intuitively figure out what I need to do, or figure it out for others.

If you want real video editing software buy Ulead VideoStudio. You get what you pay for. Well, actually, we get what we dont pay for, but we also go to video editing forums when we need advanced video help, because, thats what they do, video editing.

Ive been at this 10 years, honestly I cant imagine using Nero for anything sophisticated when it comes to the editing features you look for.

btw - thx Digital Junkie, you had not responded yet when I started this reply. You the only other person I usually look for for correct answers of this type.
