ABC keeps freezing PLEASE HELP!

When ever ABC begins to download it seems hunky dory. Then a few minutes into this ABC freezes. It looks as though all is fine at first glance, but this is not the case, It still says 'working' remains green in colour but the percentage and dowload/upload speed remain static.I left it like this for over a day to see if I was being impatient but it made no difference. The only solution I can find is to reboot my XP SP2 infested machine to get the thing working again but 2 minutes later it happens again. Am I missing something PLEASE HELP!!! :icon_shak

If your PC is infested, clean it up! Kick it in the nuts too! Maybe your missing a shitload of RAM. Maybe even try another client that uses less resources. Maybe I have no clue about your PC. :icon_tong

Have a GIG of RAM rebuilt my machine from scratch only 2 weeks ago. I run Zone Alarm Pro, NOD32 and Spybot. No errors or viruses and no problems with other software (although while running ABC I can't seem to browse the web all of the time, just get the default firefox message 'can't connect to www.?????.com). Just a problem with ABC. I did consider changing clients but all advice has told me to stick with ABC as it is the most stable and reliable. I was kinda hoping for a possible cause or solution before I stripped out ABC and tried something different. What's your advice?

Have you tried using WinXP's built-in firewall instead of ZoneAlarm Pro?

I know that ABC sucks up alot of memory, I have a GIG of RAM also, my system runs on about 700+ megs after bootup with my firewall, antivirus, etc. running. I do know that the more that ABC is downloading, the less RAM you'll have available!

if you can't surf the net after you start the program maybe you should find your upload speed and then limit it...

You can go to www.dslreports.com and do a speed test...

Then set your upload limit accordingly... sorry I'm to tired to go through and find ya the links to what you should set your upload to maybe will come along and post them

You don't need more RAM.

You probly don't need to switch firewalls either, though I will admit I dislike ZA. And NOD is notorious for messing with P2P apps.

Just disable the tracker timeout/unavailable in ABC's options.

Hi all, thanks for the advice. Kyle06 i took your advice and checked my speed connection and although slightly down on what my ISP advertises is actually not that bad. I ran a test with nothing running and ran the same test whilst dowbloading a mighty large file. It showed reduced bandwidth yet did not suggest that bandwidth/speed was the issue. Thanks.

crestfallen, Is there anyway when using ABC that I can follow your advice. Obviously as you say these options are not available to manipulate in ABC can this be done any other way/through any other settings? Am starting to thing that changing my client is the best course of action either that or i'm gonna have to start ripping hair in frustration from other parts of my body as i'm nearly finished with my dome.

vicious_emu: Which version of ABC are you using? I know this option exists in 3.x. Also there are some other things you can do. Only go to #2 if #1 does not work and so on.

1. In ABC, go into the preferences screen. Find the section labelled "Timeouts" and set all values to zero.

2. If you have an Intel processor with HT, set the affinity of the abc.exe process to ONE processor in the task manager.

3. Disable your antivirus and firewall applications.

Umm.. thanks for your useless reply. ABC is a good client. Not my preferred one, but it still works.
