Just wondering whats better private sites or public sites.
I was a member of 4pirates, they have moved server, i kept my ratio at about 1.5ish... and i always seemed to get files pretty fast. However public sites seem to be hit and miss.
What are the best sites that are either public, and/or have open registration. The big issue i have been running into is finding sites that arent maxed out on members.. or you have to be invited. Which of course is imposible, if your seeking an invite. :p
If im not saposed to post this, im sorry, just curios as to what the best sites are, and which ones would be worth persuing an invite.. and what the best methods are.

private are better
There are to many to shut down
thanks for your time
The best sites are torrentbytes, filemp3, filelist, oink,
IMO
as well as some public sites like thepiratebay, demanoid[which is located in russia]

I got a invite for UK torrents.. which isnt as big as torrentbytes.. but they have zero day stuff. Pisexy is good, but dont know if they will give invites out again.

EDIT: Demonoid is open at the moment.
At torrentbytes just keep trying back (set the signup as your homepage or something) and get ready for the sign-up form because you have to be fast or else someone else gets it before you.
Demonoid is probably my favorite genral use tracker, has lots of mac stuff aswel, has a crap ratio system though - half the time you dont get credited for your uploads so you have to be careful. Oink would be worth getting an invite for, good selection of music

I agree on all these sites but don't leave out blade's torrents. they would rate last on the list but they have a decent site.

i like private sites it gives me a false sense of security

Private sites might not be totally secure... but you do get better speeds (everyone has ratios to stick to or they get booted out) and the seeders tend to stick around longer (because people want to seed content longer to improve their ratios).

For anyone who thinks a private site can't be shout down just as quickly as a public site...THINK AGAIN! Remember elite torrents??

oh elite, how i miss you...
You may have seen my name on XboxScene, Demonoid, 4pirates, EuroEmu, and maybe elite before the shutdown.
Good advise, I have been a demonoid member for awhile. I love their selection, Lots of older apps and stuff that wouled have just gone forgotten anywhere else.
If anyone has a spare invite to a good site, that would be awesome. I usually share to at least a 2 or 3 ratio. Its just getting harder and harder to find reliable trackers.. :/ and i really need to do soemthing before the new stargate comes out :p I dont have tivo lol...

sorry for bringing up this old thread.
I prefer private trackers, there tends to be more seeders and less hit and runners.
I am a member of a couple private trackers, torrentlounge and chronictracker which are both open for signup.
I try to use private trackers when possible

Elite torrents homepage had Star wars III listed on it, and thats what got them busted. IT was stupid, torrent sites all have learned. But you are alot safer then public torrent sites, plus there was a law passed about releasing movies before release date. The movie came out a day before the movie release date.
Most of the private torrent sites werent private in the beginning. So I dont understand why people hate them. Most of them have closed their doors to keep the users inside safe. I have never recieved a DMCA letter from using private torrent site.

Private sites have in my opinion better speeds and safer releases, where public sites can be excellent for stuff that is hard to find.

Private is better due to the fact that releases tend to get on there quicker (harder to prosecute and keeps the guys happy.) They have faster speeds and the seeds remain longer. For example. On pisexy, there are torrents from 2003(2004[original saw anyone?]) that are still being seeded.

Not sure about improved security on a private tracker but the overall speeds are normally better and torrents do seem to remain seeded longer people trying to keep up their share ratios which is a good thing!

I try a private site first as they usually put up good stuff but if theres something specifiec i need and the private sites dont have it I will go to a public one and get it. Its much slower , but i will get it. lst night i was waiting for an episode of traveler and was pod to find that an hour and a half after premiering it wasnt on EZTV but it eventually came to the TD before any other site had it.

Private trackers, on public my download caps at around 250kB/s but private, my speeds are awesome(600-980kB/s). I use public trackers if theres a huge file that I want but don't want to deal with ratio issues.

Private sites tend to have much better speeds but not as many torrents. I like using them more, just because they seem to have better communities and I like maxing out my bandwidth.
When I'm looking for something I don't know if I'll find, I tend to use public trackers. I just downloaded the Super Mario Brothers movie from 1993 from TPB which is something I'm sure I wouldn't find on any private tracker.

i have to say wow all you guys just go for speed and its no wonder you go for private as they use seedbox's hence why its faster.
nothing to do with the sites but the amount of seedbox's they claim they need to run a site.
thats the only reason private is seen as better.
the security is no better than any decent public site worth its salt.
is no wonder they need masses of money to run the sites when you account for all the seed box's so they artifically make their tracker better ...
yes before you ask im a public tracker owner!!!
just my 2 cents

Of course speed matters. If I download the latest episode of "Lost" from my favorite private TV tracker, I can watch it the same night as all the fine upstanding individuals who pay for cable (*cough* suckers! *cough*). And then I won't have to worry about next-day spoilers at the office.
With movies and music, I'm a little more patient. But still, who wants to wait two days for a 6GB download? That's so 90s.

First of All hello to everyone
I am new here and i must say that i found this nice site in my quest of finding one (or more) 0day private trackers.
I also prefer private trackers because you will find everything very fast as soon as it gets out.
I also would like to make a comment here that it is not the tracker that makes you share, it is the "nature" of each one here.
I know people with great connection speeds that they are hit n runners and i find myself (with a mere 1Mbit Upload speed) having a torrent of 26Gigs seeding for weeks with a share ratio of 11,2 and in a free public tracker here in Greece.
All i say is that every human is different and thinks different and if someone wants to share, he will share it even if he was a member of FTN or any other public tracker.
I am trying now to find a way to get inside a tracker like FTN or SCN or TL because i think that i can find stuff there as quickly as hell (and i dont meen the dl speed) but all i see is that it is probably impossible to become a member in one of these trackers. Maybe when i am old enough and i quit playing around in internet my grandson will get an email saying that he can join.
Maybe this too much or maybe not:icon_scra
All i know is that people that are trully willing to help the community are kept outside without a test drive
The above wasnt with bad intention but more like a complain that i wanted to say to someone. Plz dont misjudge me i generally am a nice guy (most part of the day:icon_chee )
thank you
hope i have a nice time here

just my 2 cents i respectfully disagree. ive known several people who have had their i.s.p. disconnected for copyright infringement. and everyone of them has been on a public tracker. probably the one you own.

I use Demonoid and love it. It has 150K torrents and 25K movies. Only tracker i love more for movies is KG. Look kids. Pretimes don't matter. If you have lives you will understand that. I only use some private trackers for speed and some exclusive content and thats pretty much it.

private all the way. The quality and amount of rare content on specialized sites is the best. Speed speed and more speed who wants to wait forever for anything. Too many hit and runners on public trackers. As for safety i don't know, least there isn't any fakes.

You are so right about Demonoid. Even though I use mostly private sites it happens quite a bit that I find something on Demonoid, that I could not find anywhere else. Same thing goes for public trackers as a whole using "name"+torrent
I do prefer private though as I can trust that a torrent with only 1 seed is completed or I can get a reseed. That is much harder on a public site. And of course the speeds are better on private sites.

Christ I can't believe this is still debate??!! It's like arguing about whether shouting across a hill is better than telecommunications...
Private is better for OBVIOUS reasons... deal with it.
Honestly I am tired of all of these 'debates' around BT. Which is better public or private? Is BT anonymous are we safe is it legal, are we thieves or part of a revolution, yawn yawn yawn.
Just shut up an download people!!!
And yes while I do only use private trackers, I felt a huge void when demonoid was lost, which is now blissfully filled! :icon_salu
