Azureus 'pending' download state

Hi all,
I've been playing with settings in Azureus recently, and I've got a problem.

When I try to download I get 'pending' as my download state. I do connect to peers eventually, but it takes an incredibly long time (and the download speeds I get off these peers are either slow (1KB/s) or non-existant!). I've been trying to find an alternative client to fit my needs but nothing works as well as Azureus for my network. I shouldn't have trouble downloading as there is well over 100 peers connected to the torrent.

Do you know of any reason that I am unable to connect to these peers?

You could have 10,000 peers and it still might not start. Most likely the problem lies with the torrent!
