Winrar hands down is the best app for compressing files

Don't you have to pay for the full version?

winrar and i have always use the trial for months without putting in a serial code although i dont need to do that, and if i wanted to get one it would be easy.
point winrar is by far the greatest rar utility i worship it.

if you need to create .rar files to send to people use winrar, if you just need to open them i find 7zip does better compression at the maximum compression setting, but runs very slow and needs a lot of ram to use the max compression setting (around 360megs iirc)

I have used Winace myself for as long as I can remember. I have never had a problem with it.

I got to agree with everyone else here, winrar is THE zip/unzip application to use. Particularly I like the right click menu with the additions there so you don't have to fire up the whole program to use the unzip function. Drop your zipped file into a new folder, right click on it and choose extract here. It is hard to think of an easier application for anyone, even someone who has never used it before.

I find that like many of my favorite programs, it is a multi-format program, even unzipping files that many haven't heard of.

If there is a problem with it, it is that it is so popular that some of the trojans look for it and specifically target zipped files and rar files. That really isn't a fault of Winrar though.

just about every zip program i have seen since 2000 has had that.

For most things I use WinRAR.

The only exception is compressing files for backup--for that I use 7-zip.

Why is 7-zip better at compressing porn than WinRAR? :icon_tong
