Okay, I have a highspeed account of only 128 Kbps and I'm told that's no good for downloading large files using, say, BitTorrent or ABC.
I did get BitTorrent to start downloading but it still takes forever. The best I was able to do is 1 day and it took a long time until it reduced to 14 hrs or whatever. The uploads ranged from 5 to 8 kbps and I set the upload to the max. the ISP for that account supports. Anyway, you get the picture. This is my question:
1) Is there a site or someone who can help me confirm my router settings, the settings in Windows Networking, whether I need to disable my firewall (or not), the correct IP address digits used and whether I set up a static IP correctly? I think it may be correct. I port-forwarded using various help pages and I set up a Static IP (or so I think).
2) My router: Linksys WRT54G (not wireless), OS: 2K, no firewall software, AVG Anti-Virus, ...hmmmm...what else to help advise me...
3) I want to know if my settings are adequate or correct and whether upgrading my account will make a significant difference. What if the ISP tells you not to download or use BitTorrent?
I had previous problems getting decent speed with Emule but I had a faster ISP HS account. However, part of the problem might have been due to incorrect settings and I didn't have a Static IP set up, I don't think. Not sure, though. HELP?!?
