If I were the richest man in the world, I'd upgrade everyone's computers running older versions of Windows to XP.

Yeah, easy old Linux. It took me 4 days to read about how to download files with Linux and another 4 days to find the file on my HD after I downloaded it...real easy!

No offence mcovey, but it just ain't user friendly enough at this point. I would love to see M$ have a good run for their money though...perhaps in time.

Easy old windows. Took me 5 minutes to catch the virus and 4 days to figure out I'd need to format to get rid of it. I didn't reinstall windows, I switched to Linux.

Linux is easy if you are willing to deal with a learning curve... about the same curve as there is for windows. DIFFERENT is not DIFFICULT.

I agree cpugeniusmv. I finally got fed up with the virus, malware, and all the other crap. Starting to learn linux now. I have been using it for just a short time. I had the same problem with finding files till I had a brain fart of either paying attention to where the file I was downloading was being put or just simply using the search to find it.

It seems my biggest problem at present is solving how to use tarballs. However I am sure that too will come with time. I spent years learning the ins and outs of windoze. That doesn't cure the security holes within windoze though. I figure if I spend the same amount of time on linux I will be as close to a happy computer user as I can be. I have finally settled on the SuSE flavor of linux as a learning OS.

Earlier today I had a most happy experience with surfing. One of those lovely hidden toolbars you get while surfing the net that install and you can rarely find without the help of hijack this or some other simular program gave a 404 error when it tried to install. Billy and the Boyz can keep their trash. The expense of running windoze doesn't end with the purchase of the OS, rather that is just the start. After that comes the annual payments for spyware removers, antivirus, anti this and anti that. Well all that part ended with the linux. They can keep their OS and I will save money by not using it again.

I figure I've posted it here before, but I'll do it again - people always complain about all the time it takes to learn Linux. Honestly, since I've switched to Linux, I spend the same amount of time working on it as I did with Windows. Only difference is that with Windows, I spent endless amounts of time doing really boring tasks, like scanning for viruses, etc. On Linux, I get to spend it learning about the ins and outs of the OS, and trying new things. I'd far rather be doing the latter!
